'Now is a good time': Bathurst champion to retire

One-time Bathurst 1000 winner Nick Percat is bringing an end to his career as a full-time Supercars driver.

The 37-year-old South Australian will bow out after his home race, the newly named Adelaide Grand Final, in November.

Percat is likely to still take part in Supercars enduro races, including at Bathurst, as a co-driver from next year.

"It was definitely not an easy decision because I'm still very competitive," Percat said.

"I feel like I'm driving well and have got trophies this year.

"So it has been quite a lengthy decision, but on the flip side, when one door closes another opens.

"There was probably opportunity to stay on the grid but it's about making sure you put yourself in the right place at the right time, so for me, now was a good time."

Percat made his Supercars debut at Phillip Island in 2010, going on to compete in 366 races.

He has claimed six Supercars wins and appeared on the podium 19 times.

Percat's most famous victory came at the Bathurst 1000 in 2011, when he partnered the great Garth Tander to win for the Holden Racing Team.

This week's appearance at Mount Panorama will mark his 15th start in the Great Race.

"Bathurst 2011 with Garth (Tander) and HRT is something I'll never forget and every time it comes on, I actually get goosebumps," Percat said.

"And now to get to do my last Bathurst as a main driver alongside Tim Slade is really, really cool because he is a good friend."
