Nottingham takeaway bounces back from one to highest food hygiene rating

A Nottingham takeaway previously awarded a hygiene rating of one following an inspection has bounced back to achieve the highest possible ranking.

Following a revisit Fresh Munch has now received a five by Nottingham City Council's environmental health team.

Last November the business was ordered to make major improvements in the management of food safety and take steps to improve hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and condition of facilities and the building at in Hyson Green.

The takeaway, which specialises in fried chicken and pizzas, has since demonstrated that a system is in place to ensure that food sold is safe to eat and evidence that staff know about food safety.

Owner Muhammad Ali said: "The inspector said he was very impressed with the preparation of fresh food, staff knowledge and the overall set up of the shop and equipment.

"He also mentioned the shop is very clean and hygienic."

Mr Ali opened Fresh Munch, in Radford Road, last October, investing £80,000 in a completely new fit out.

He previously told Nottinghamshire Live he had been "heartbroken" by the low rating and argued that it was unjustified.

Since the new score, he said: "I'm very glad to become one of the best fast food takeaways in Hyson Green. We are providing top quality pizza and chicken. Service and food quality is our priority and we work hard.

"The shop was already brand new. There were a few things required by the council, such as a dripping tap to fix, renovating the back yard and completing some paper work."

Last week, our reporter Joel Moore sampled the food at the takeaway and gave his verdict in a review here.
