A COUNCIL has rubbished social media claims that a Jewish cemetery was “vandalised”.
Glasgow City Council hit back after footage was shared on Twitter/X which purported to show damage to graves at the Glasgow (Garnethill) Hebrew Congregational Burial Ground at the Western Necropolis.
The footage showed headstones lying flat on the ground and was captioned: “Glasgow Garnethill Jewish cemetery has been vandalised... up to 50 head stones pushed to the ground. Yet another senseless antisemitic attack.”
Hello. This is not vandalism. Older headstones have been laid flat for safety reasons. Some are flat by design. Some have been laid down for repairs and restoration as part of work led by Glasgow Hebrew Burial Society. ^V
