But now the Manchester United star has gone viral again - this time for an iconic photoshoot with his long-time foe Lionel Messi.
The pair starred in a promotional image for fashion brand Louis Vuitton, with both deep in thought, bizarrely, whilst playing a chess match. The picture has left many fans confused as to why two footballing icons would be pictured playing another sport.

It is rumoured the picture is referencing a famous chess match that pitted together two of the best players ever. Fans have suggested the shot is based on the 2017 tussle between Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura - a famous match that saw a move deployed that meant a draw was inevitable.
Many have drawn parallels as there is a seemingly never-ending debate over who out of Ronaldo and Messi is the GOAT (greatest of all time).
