Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are getting harder to find by the second, and this week has been no different. As we approach the weekend, some retailers have been dropping little bursts of stock, but at blink-and-you 'll-miss-it speeds that not everyone can keep up with. In the US, there haven't been any significant pre-order drops available since the first batch, with big retailers like Walmart and Best Buy being pretty quiet. Meanwhile, in the UK, The Game Collection has been holding down the fort with some bundles, but otherwise it's been pretty sparse on the Switch 2 front.
Generally, with almost just a month to go until launch, it's getting harder to find a Switch 2 pre-order every day, but it's not all doom and gloom. Nintendo is still set to hand out pre-order invites on May 8 for those in the US. Just be sure to check that you meet all the criteria Ninty has laid out before you get excited. I'd also recommend not throwing in the towel just yet, as it wouldn't surprise me if some big retailers still have some pre-order stock hidden up their sleeves.
I've been tracking hard-to-find stock for over five years now. It all started when the PS5 and Xbox Series X were near-impossible to pre-order back in 2020. Since then, I've been covering high-profile releases, tracking which retailers drop new stock the most frequently (and how to make the most of it when they do). That means I know where to look next and, crucially, what you can do to end up with an email confirmation at the end of it.

Should you pre-order Nintendo Switch 2?

If you missed out on the first wave of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, you may be wondering what the fuss is all about. The Switch 2 is a more powerful handheld capable of running new exclusive games (and most of the old Switch catalog) much better in both handheld and docked mode, with a few extra fancy features up its sleeve as well.
Considering the speed these devices are selling at, you'll want to get a pre-order locked in as soon as possible if you want a handheld on the very day it releases. We don't know how long delivery will take when buying it direct on launch day, and some stores are still guaranteeing that release window. That said, stock is difficult to find right now so you'll need to join the hunt.
If you know you'll ultimately end up upgrading to the Switch 2, but still have a capable handheld and a backlog of titles to get through, that pre-order isn't quite so urgent. However, I would warn against leaving it in the hopes of a cheaper price come the holidays. Nintendo hardware holds its value for an exceedingly long amount of time, and considering all the tariff troubles I'm expecting we won't see a price cut for some time yet.
What Nintendo Switch 2 accessories are available?

Nintendo has provided a wealth of first party accessories to choose from, with refreshes to most of its classic Switch peripherals for the second generation. The new Pro 2 Controller improves on battery charge times, haptics, and offers a more luxurious build quality while you can still pick up additional Joy-Con 2 Pairs with all those magnetic, mouse-sensor features baked in.
On top of those staples, you'll find two official cases, one slimline carry case and another all-in-one box carrier, the return of the Joy-Con Wheels, spare grips, and a new Joy-Con Charging Grip with the benefit of two additional back buttons.
Then there's the all-important camera for easy online multiplayer sessions (though Hori has also released a cheaper and far more exciting Piranha Plant model as well).
Finally, we have the GameCube controller. This is a My Nintendo exclusive designed to work alongside the new range of GC games heading to Nintendo Switch Online on the new device. You'll need to have an invite from Nintendo specifically to purchase that one, though.
When is the Nintendo Switch 2 release date?

The Nintendo Switch 2 will officially land on the shelves on June 5, with some retailers offering guaranteed release day delivery. However, as stock has already shifted off the shelves some stores are pushing their shipping timelines further back.
How much is the Nintendo Switch 2?

The Nintendo Switch 2 costs $449.99 / £395.99 for the handheld by itself, but it's also available in a Mario Kart World bundle at $499.99 / £429.99. That's much better value overall, with the final cost of the game itself coming in at $79.99 / £74.99. That means you're saving about $30 / £40 by grabbing the package deal.
Live updates
Another week begins
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have just started their second week in the US, with the UK now onto its fourth week of early stock.
Things are quiet right now, but there are a few new movements on retailer sites to take note of. I'm stock checking through all the biggest stores, and will be bringing you all my tips and tricks for making the most of any drops you do come up against, right here.
Walmart isn't listing the Nintendo Switch 2 anymore

This is an odd one.
Walmart generally keeps its listings around when it's run out of stock - that's what I've seen from the PS5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection, and PS Portal over the years at least. However, the store has removed its listings for both the Nintendo Switch 2 handheld and the Mario Kart World bundle.
I would be surprised if Walmart was out of this race. The store had a massive supply when it dropped its first wave of pre-orders last week. This is certainly one to watch, though.
In better news...

GameStop has the Nintendo Switch 2 listed as "coming soon."
Rather than simply saying it's unavailable or out of stock, GameStop is giving us a little hope with this message. Sure, it could be referring to launch day but the optimists among us will be keeping a close eye on this retailer over the next few weeks.

PSA: Don't buy Nintendo Switch 2 from resellers

eBay is rife with reseller listings for the Nintendo Switch 2 right now, with some charging near $800 for the handheld by itself. Considering we've still got just over a month of pre-orders (and launch day availability) to go, it's just not worth buying from these scams.
They're essentially the same people (and their armies of bots) who took your pre-order from reputable retailers like Best Buy or Walmart. Allowing them to sell it back to you at an inflated price will only make it harder to buy releases in the future as more scammers get involved.
Nothing in the UK right now
The last retailer I saw offering Nintendo Switch 2 stock in the UK was The Game Collection and since those bundles left the shelves it's all been very quiet.
Still, last week gave us enough new drops to count on two hands so there's plenty to look forward to.
As ever, I'd recommend keeping in touch with Very and Argos, but Amazon has also been upping its frequency lately as well. It's also also worth watching those smaller stores like ShopTo as handhelds can hit the shelves without warning.
Top Tip: Stay signed into your accounts
Even if you missed out on last week's stock at Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and GameStop, it's well worth creating accounts for all of them and staying signed in. You never know when new Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are going to pop up and you'll want to be ready to sail through checkout as quickly as possible when they do.
I see consoles being sniped out of baskets constantly - it's not yours until you have that email confirmation. Stores will simply allow you to add it to your cart and then hand out allocation as each purchase is processed through the system. Keeping your shipping and payment details saved in your account (or using Apple or Google Pay) is the fastest way to make it through.
All eyes on Newegg

Yes, Walmart, Best Buy, and GameStop are all worth keeping a close eye on this week, but there's one more retailer I'm going to be watching like a hawk.
Newegg has the Nintendo Switch 2 listed on its site, but hasn't dropped any stock yet. That means there could be pre-orders waiting to go live, though the reason for any delay would be a mystery. It's been four days since that onslaught of stock hit the shelves for the first time, and this smaller retailer might be waiting for a lull in activity.

Nintendo Switch 2 games are still available to pre-order at Walmart

What you doing there Wii Sports?
Walmart still has a range of Nintendo Switch 2 games available to pre-order right now, spanning everything from Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza to Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. That's all alongside third party releases like Cyberpunk 2077, Split Fiction, and Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar.
Just make a note of those release dates, as they aren't all launch-day titles.

Amazon US might not have Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders at all

If you spend some time digging through Amazon US's Nintendo listings you'll notice something strange. Pretty much nothing is actually sold direct via the retailer, and hasn't been for some time.
I first noticed it over Black Friday, when there were close to zero offers on any Ninty games, handhelds, or accessories. The retailer wasn't even carrying last year's holiday bundles.
There's been talk of a bust up between these two brands for some time, with many citing Amazon's early delivery (and therefore broken street dates) on Nintendo's games as a reason behind the breakup.
Considering the store hasn't got any Nintendo Switch 2 listings live, it might be sitting this one out.
Top Tip: If listings appear at this UK retailer we're in for a good time

Very only ever lists the Nintendo Switch 2 when it has inventory to shift, so if you spot bundles on the shelves (even if they're slated as unavailable) it's go time. I haven't seen it for a while now, but it's worth remembering while you're out hunting for stock.

Where to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller

The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is also available for pre-order right now, and its stock is holding out a little better than the handheld.
Best Buy is your go-to in the US after Walmart ran out of stock towards the end of last week. There, you'll find the updated Pro Controller available for $84.99 with shipping by release day.

Over in the UK, you'll want to head to Very, with delivery set for June 5 and a seemingly endless supply of stock available.

PSA: Nintendo's invites don't ship until May 8

If you've registered for a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order via the brand's own Nintendo Store you might get another shot at stock. Those email invitations will only be sent out starting May 8 (and only to those who meet the criteria of hours played and length of NSO subscription).
There's no need to panic thinking you've been missed off the list already. While Nintendo doesn't guarantee everyone will be invited next month, and has more recently explained that even its own store won't guarantee launch day delivery, we've still got a week to go before Ninty makes its move.
Where to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera

Getting ready for the full online multiplayer Mario Kart experience from day one? You'll need to grab yourself a lens first.
Walmart is also out of stock on the Nintendo Switch 2 camera, but Best Buy has swooped in to save the day again. The $54.99 device is available to pre-order right now via the yellow-label store, with both pickup and shipping available for release day.
Nintendo Switch 2 Camera | $54.99 at Best Buy
The UK is still covered by Very here, with the £49.99 camera available to pre-order with delivery set for June 5.

Can you pre-order Nintendo Switch 2 in-store?

It's all very quiet online right now, but if you're getting impatient it's well worth heading into a few stores. I know for a fact that GameStop is offering these in-person orders in the US, and Currys is your go-to in the UK. The latter is only running its pre-orders through its brick and mortar locations.
Let's talk about Argos

Argos sold out of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders much slower than other retailers, holding that stock for a good day before finally giving way. I would still recommend keeping a close eye on this store, though, for one reason.
All that lovely stock is organized by post code. That means UK stock hunters have a much smaller competition pool when hunting down new pre-order opportunities. You're only racing those in your local area to your store's supply.
I don't think Argos is out for the count yet. Considering there's still just over a month left before that June 5 release date, there's plenty of time for more availability to show up.

Should you pre-order extra Joy-Con?

Sets of extra Joy-Con are particularly expensive for the Nintendo Switch 2, coming in at $94.99 in the US and £74.99 in the UK. Adding a pair of these to your order is going to bump your Switch price up to a whopping $544.98 / £470.98 - and that's assuming you don't opt for the better-value Mario Kart World bundle.
I don't think many players will need an extra set of Joy-Con from day one. If you want easy multiplayer access there are far cheaper gamepads ready to buy that sacrifice a few of Ninty's own features for budget, reliable play. However, if you know you'll need all those motion and rumble controls straight from the off (say you've got more than two children who both want to play at the same time), you'll be looking at a pricey addition.
Right now, Joy-Con 2 Pairs are only available to pre-order in the UK. We're still waiting on Walmart and Best Buy to launch their stock in the US.

Will Newegg drop more Nintendo Switch 2 stock today?
Newegg hasn't shifted all day, but still has the Nintendo Switch 2 (and its Mario Kart World bundle) listed on the page. We're just past that magic morning window now, the 8am ET - 11am ET block when I've seen most retailers launching hard-to-find stock in the past. However, I'd still keep watch at 2pm ET as that's another big time for some US retailers.
Antonline has posted its Nintendo Switch 2 listings

Antonline has now listed both the Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle, with 'Coming Soon' buttons on each. Clicking through tells you that the "item cannot be purchased at this time" but any movement is good!
Nintendo Switch 2 | Check stock at Antonline
You can pre-order the Switch 2 GameCube controller, but it might be tricky

The Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube controller will only be available pre-order direct from Nintendo itself. They're also restricted to those who have already been invited to buy the Switch 2 from Ninty's own email notification system. That means US folk are still waiting until those May 8 invites roll out, but UK stock-hunters are free to place their orders as soon as they get their invite.
That's easier said than done - first you have to qualify to buy an actual console from Nintendo, and considering the brand has already claimed that Japanese demand is outweighing supplies that's not going to be a walk in the park.
A stock-less day
It's been tough trying to find a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order today, it looks like UK retailers are still refueling before their second waves and US stores are understandably still getting over their recent drops last week. I'm still keeping my eyes peeled for any movement from Newegg and Antonline, but it looks like we're in a quiet period right now.
Amazon UK has stock!

Amazon has just dropped Nintendo Switch 2 stock for the first time in a little while. This thing tends to move fast, though, so I'd get there as soon as you can.
Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle | £429.99 at Amazon
And it's gone
Well that was fun, Amazon dropped a few minutes of Nintendo Switch 2 stock but it all sold out pretty fast. I'm not getting that magical 'pre-order now' button back no matter how many times I refresh now, so it's safe to say the site is done for now.
That's not the end of this road, though - far from it. This is the fourth time I've seen Amazon UK stealth dropping a few handhelds at a time, and it's unlikely to be the last. Stay in touch with this store to see if you strike lucky over the rest of the day.
What's everyone else saying?
I've just come from another full retailer check and everyone else seems to be staying quiet this morning. Retailers in the US and UK are still holding their previous positions, with some removing the Switch 2 from their listing pages entirely and others leaving us with an enticing 'Coming Soon' message.
Keep checking the stores at the top of this page - I only stumbled across that Amazon UK drop by checking through the list. You'll need to be in the right place at the right time but you never know when you'll get lucky.
Hori Piranha Plant Camera vs Nintendo Switch 2 Camera: Which should you pre-order?

There are two Nintendo Switch 2 cameras up for pre-order right now, with Ninty's official model costing $54.99 / £49.99 and Hori's infinitely more fun Piranha Plant model available for $59.99 / £34.99.
The former simply sits next to your dock, offering 1080p video capture while you play with your friends. Hori's model features a privacy shutter built into those foreboding jaws, and a detachable stem so that you can easily use it in handheld mode, but it taps out at a crusty 480p resolution.
The main difference between the two is that capture quality. You're going to get a much sharper, cleaner image from Nintendo's own camera, at the expense of Hori's fun aesthetic, privacy features, and detachable design.
Ultimately, the one you pre-order comes down to how you plan on using your camera. If you're building a brightly themed setup and don't mind the drop in quality, Hori's is a solid bet. However, if you won't use it in handheld mode and would prefer to appear in higher resolution to your friends, Nintendo is the way to go.

Where to pre-order Donkey Kong Bananza

Donkey Kong Bananza isn't a launch title, but it is one of the most popular pre-orders alongside the handheld itself. While this 3D action platformer won't land at your doorstep until July 17, it's in stock across the US and UK right now.

Be sure to sign up to email notifications
Last week, The Game Collection actually made good on its email notification system in the UK, letting us know of a bundle drop that would be landing just a few hours later. That's why it's so important to stay up to date with these retailers, while some will simply stealth drop their stock (looking at you Amazon), others can actually give you a valuable heads up.
Very and Walmart add new games for pre-order
Four more Nintendo Switch 2 game pre-orders have now arrived at Walmart (and Very if you're in the UK). Both Cyberpunk 2077 and Split Fiction are ready to go ahead of that June 5 launch date, meanwhile Madden 26 is queued up to release on August 31. Walmart doesn't have Civ VII on its shelves yet, but UK stock-hunters can now pre-order as well.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition | $69 at Walmart | £64.99 at Very
Split Fiction | $49.99 at Walmart | £44.99 at Very

GameStop is investigating a store over shady Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders
GameStop's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders went live in-store on April 24 last week, but some have reported (like Elea Tsentzelis on Twitter) that stock-hunters were being turned away if they did not want to buy one of the store's own bundles.
Rather than selling the handheld, Mario Kart World bundle, and a few other packages separately, some brick and mortar stores were apparently pushing larger-priced bundles instead.
Of course, retailers can do what they want with their allocation and this was only reported from one location so far.
PSA: You don't need to rebuy Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has a full Nintendo Switch 2 version hitting the shelves on June 5, but if you already own the game for your existing Switch you can simply buy an "upgrade pack" to enjoy the upscaled title.
The Switch 2 version benefits from higher resolution gameplay and adds HDR support and compatibility for the Zelda Notes section of the Nintendo Switch App. The upgrade is $9.99 in the US and £7.99 in the UK, which means it may be cheaper to buy a Switch version of the game and upgrade later.
The full game costs $69 / £64.99 at pre-order, but you can pick up a Switch copy for $49.58 at Walmart right now, or £44.99 at Very.
Will retailers restock before June 5?
We're in a quiet period right now, which means stores have already sold out of their first Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order allocations and are likely trying to gather more handhelds to put on the shelves. Whether or not we see more stock before launch day depends on whether Nintendo is providing that second wave.
Both Sony and Microsoft replenished retailer supplies frequently when the PS5 and Xbox Series X first launched back in 2020. I saw new pre-orders launching fairly frequently in the weeks following that first wave, though things did slow down closer to launch.
Right now, I'm erring on the side of optimism. I've seen stock come back on every major pre-order release I've covered and, while Nintendo does do its own thing and has been affected by the tariff situation, I'm confident we'll see something similar here.
New Legend of Zelda Amiibo are starting to run out of stock
The Riju and Tulin Legend of Zelda Amiibo have now run out of stock at Walmart (though are still available at Best Buy), and the Yunobo figure remains unavailable until release day on June 5 for some reason. Justice for my guy Sidon, though, that Amiibo is still readily available having seen less interest during this pre-order season.
- Tulin | $29.99 at Best Buy
- Sidon | $29.88 at Walmart
- Riju | $29.99 at Best Buy
- Yunobo | Check stock at Walmart
There's more where that came from

If you're more Capcom-leaning, you'll be glad to know there's also a series of three new Street Fighter 6 Amiibo available for pre-order. These are a little more expensive, coming in $10 higher than the Zelda figures, but they are all still in stock ahead of that June 6 release date.
Luke Amiibo | $39.88 at Walmart
Kimberly Amiibo | $39.88 at Walmart
Jamie Amiibo | $39.88 at Walmart
Top Tip: Go straight for the Mario Kart World bundle when stock does land
The Mario Kart World bundle costs $50 more in the US and £30 more in the UK, but it offers far better value than buying the handheld by itself. That's because the game comes in at $79.99 / £74.99 by itself, so the bundle is saving you a good chunk of change straight from the off.
That means it's the more popular option by far, and we also know that retailers have higher allocations of this stock as a result. It's better value and there's more to go around, but you might have to fight a little harder to get it.
Where to pre-order Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2 on Nintendo Switch 2

Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2 is available for pre-order in both the US and UK right now, with the Capcom title due to land alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. This is cheaper than most first-party launch day games, coming in at $59.99 / £49.99.
Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2 | $59.88 at Walmart | £49.99 at Very
Will Walmart's guaranteed launch day delivery hold for future restocks?
Walmart had an ace up its sleeve when Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders first went live last week. The retailer was offering free launch day delivery on all orders placed before June 4, with shipping guaranteed before 9am. That's as good as getting up and queuing for a store's opening.
However, some reported that delivery date slipping slightly towards the end of Walmart's first wave of stock. Whether or not the offer returns when the retailer does get a new batch of handhelds to fling out remains to be seen. Given the longer timeline of June 4, though, I'm cautiously optimistic.
Where to pre-order the official Nintendo Switch 2 carry case
I don't know about you, but when I spend nearly $500 on a new gadget I want a case as soon as possible. While there will no doubt be a multitude of third party cases on the shelves by the time the Nintendo Switch 2 makes its official debut, Ninty itself has its official clamshell available to pre-order right now.
The $39.99 / £20.99 carry case is a simple design, but it will see you through those early days of carting your new toy around town - plus it comes with a screen protector for good measure. Stock is out in the US right now, but GameStop still has a listing page live so I'd recommend checking there first. Meanwhile, UK stock-hunters can readily pre-order at Very.

Walmart only has a few Nintendo Switch 2 accessories left
Only the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera and Nintendo Switch 2 AC Adapter remain on Walmart's shelves right now, with everything else being sold out. Best Buy is picking up the slack on a few bits and pieces but overall this is odd behavior from one of the largest retailers in the game.
With Amazon apparently sitting this generation out, I would have expected Bezos's allocation to be split between Walmart and Best Buy. However, that fact that the big-box store to have run out of stock so much quicker than its yellow-label counterpart is a little odd.

Is Currys going online? Probably not

A few days ago, we spotted that Currys had actually posted listing pages for the Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle. That came as a surprise seeing as the retailer was so adamant it was only doing in-store pre-orders.
There's some mixed messages on this page, though. A smaller boxout is telling us to go to a nearby store to pre-order, but there's also an email notification for new stock updates. I've seen that page element on other products in the past, so I wouldn't put too much stock in it - it's likely a static button that exists on every Currys item that happens to be unavailable.
I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, and I'm more than happy to be proven wrong here, but I expect this isn't a listing page for pre-orders. Currys will ultimately be selling the Nintendo Switch 2 on its website after launch, and considering the page is still directing traffic towards in-store orders I expect this is more of a holding page for June 5.
Still, there's movement here. And we'll take any movement we can get at the moment.

There's always Nintendo
If you're getting frustrated with the lack of stock in the US, I'd recommend signing up to Nintendo's invite system as soon as possible. Priority will be given to those with longer Switch Online memberships and more than 50 hours of playtime on their account, but these pre-orders don't start until May 8.
The brand has recently stated that its supplies couldn't keep up with Japan's demand when it launched pre-orders in the region, so this is far from a guarantee. However, it is another shot to keep in your back pocket.
There could be more to that May 8 date
I have a theory, and it's simply a theory. Nintendo could well be holding back on its additional allocation to third party retailers until after that May 8 invite date. We could be in for a quiet week until it rolls around, but this could mark the start of the next wave of units being allocated to stores in the US and UK.
Amazon might be making some moves

I long thought Amazon was firmly out of this race, but the online retailer has just posted a series of Nintendo Switch 2 games that could suggest it's patched up its relationship with Ninty itself. Many were speculating that the store wouldn't be offering any Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders after being cut off by the brand for early shipping - and that could still be true.
The games listed are all third party releases, there's nothing from Nintendo's own publishing house here. That means no Donkey Kong Bananza, Legend of Zelda, or Mario Kart are available. Instead, games include Cyberpunk 2077, Rune Factory, and Story of Seasons. That means Ninty still isn't sending its own kit to Amazon US, so while it's possible this retailer could spring to life (at least it's acknowledging that Switch 2 is a thing), I still wouldn't hold my breath.
Cyberpunk 2077 | $69.99 at Amazon
Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma | $69.99 at Amazon
Daemon X Machina Titanic Scion Limited Edition | $99.99 at Amazon
Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar | $59.99 at Amazon

Blink and you'll miss it
I'm seeing reports of an extremely brief stock replenishment at The Game Collection in the UK this morning, but by all accounts it lasted less than 10 minutes. Regardless, this could be a solid development throughout the day, so I'll be keeping an eye on UK stock landing today from The Game Collection.
The bundle in question seems to have been the Carry Case, Cyberpunk, Hitman, and 256GB Micro SD Card, which went for £589.95. Since it relies on quite a few accessories, I'm not surprised this bundle got eaten up almost immediately.
To bundle, or not to bundle, that is the question...

It does suck slightly that people who just want to pre-order the Switch 2 console are having to fork out extra money for a bundle because the bundles are all you can find stock of. Don't get me wrong, some of the bundle offerings, depending on the retailer, are pretty good, and do get you some handy accessories to kickstart your new Switch's life.
Still, for how good a job most retailers are doing at preventing scalpers from bulk buying consoles, they sure are hiking the profits for themselves by not just offering the Switch 2 on its own. Hopefully we can see some more Switch 2 (with a side of nothing) stock hit the storefronts today - I know I'll be keeping an eye out for it.
Check your OG Switch for an update

Good news for those of you who own the original Nintendo Switch. The console has just been hit with a big ol' firmware update which prepares it for life in retirement. This new software updte which is named Version 20.0.0 adds features like the Virtual Game Card system and GameShare, which, if you remember from the Switch 2 Direct, is the Nintendo equivalent to Steam families and game sharing.
You can also prep your OG Switch for transferring data to your new Switch 2 thanks to a new option in the settings menu. There are also some smaller aspects of the update, which add new user icons and updated icons in the UI for the Nintendo eShop.
You can find the full patch notes on Nintendo's Support website.
Something's gotta give at Newegg

Alright, so Newegg has had a listing for the Switch 2 this week, but after two days, it hasn't made stock available once. Surely today is the day, right?
I'll be hitting refresh on Newegg's store page a lot today, but I'd guess that if it's going to drop some stock, it'll do it during typical US hours (maybe around 10am ET). I'm just warning you so you have plenty of time to prepare if you're in the States and you get up early for a virtual shopping trip.

Any UK shoppers looking to bag some accessories while they wait for console stock might want to know that you can still get the Switch 2 Pro Controller for £74.99 at Very, as well as a few other retailers.
As a reminder, the Pro Controller comes with two back buttons, and although we've heard it said the thumbsticks and entire controller have been redesigned from the ground up, we know that it doesn't have anti-stick drift Hall sensor technology inside it. Has Nintendo found another way to fix its stick drift issues?

Switch 2 games are up for pre-order at Amazon US
You can now pre-order Switch 2 games like Cyberpunk 2077, Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma, Split Fiction, Yakuza 0, and more at Amazon in the US.
Might this mean we see some Switch 2 console stock drop at Amazon today, too? We can only hope right now. Remember, you can upgrade some of your existing Switch games to their Switch 2 Editions without repurchasing the whole game again.

UK retailers to watch

Where are we most likely to see UK stock today? I thought you'd never ask. Early this morning, there was a super-short-lived restock at The Game Collection, so it might be worth keeping an eye out there for its various bundles and offerings.
Amazon in the UK had some stock yesterday, with nothing so far going on today. The listing still exists, though, and although I'd have expected a drop earlier on if there was going to be one, stranger things have happened. It seems like Amazon is finally entering the Switch 2 pre-order race as other retailers drift out, so from here on in it's worth checking there.
We haven't heard from Argos or ShopTo in a while, but these have been reliable sources in previous weeks here in the UK. Very seems to have the steadiest flow of accessories, too.
All in all, it's difficult to say where the best place to check is - I wish it were as simple as that. I'd put my best on Amazon, but something tells me a random Argos resupply could drop sometime soon. Either way, I'll be here with the latest updates.
Where can US readers still pre-order the Zelda Amiibo?

Going steady from yesterday, these are the best places to get a hold of the new Zelda Amiibo sets. Yunobo is the only one of the bunch that's firmly out of stock (for understandable reasons, look at him), but the rest are still available at Walmart and Best Buy. On the bright side, Yunobo does seem to be coming back in stock soon, so take a look at the Walmart link below if you're interested.
- Tulin | $29.99 at Best Buy
- Sidon | $29.88 at Walmart
- Riju | $29.99 at Best Buy

AMAZON UK STOCK IS IN
And we're off! Amazon UK has just activated the pre-order button on its Switch 2 pre-order page. Go, go, go!
Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle: £429 at Amazon UK
To the surprise of absolutely no one, that Amazon stock flew off the shelves

And just like that, Amazon pre-order stock in the UK has vanished again. It was nice while it lasted (about two minutes, total), and hopefully, some of you managed to secure a pre-order from it. If not, we might see Amazon do another drop tomorrow. I'll keep checking today, though, as we could get lucky.
Good morning, US readers! All eyes on Newegg...

Now that we've reached normal waking hours for US readers, I just wanted to say a quick hello!
The main retailer I'd be checking if I were shopping over there right now is Newegg. The site has had a live page for the Switch 2 and its Mario Kart World bundle for 2 days now, but it hasn't activated its pre-order button yet. That seems a little odd to me, and at some point, you'd expect them to release whatever stock they clearly know they'll have soon.
After two days of silence, could this be when Newegg joins the party? We're still all quiet on the Amazon front, so the battleground is Newegg's for the taking.
My favorite Switch controller at the moment

If you aren't so keen on the new Switch 2 Pro Controller, you may be in luck. We haven't had official confirmation that third-party pro controllers for the OG Nintendo Switch will be compatible with Switch 2, but it would certainly make sense that they are. We certainly don't see any reason that they wouldn't be, especially when the majority of first-party peripherals are forward and backward compatible with the new Switch.
Still, if you're willing to take the gamble and you'd like a gamepad that will absolutely, definitely be immune to stick drift, then the GameSir Tarantula Pro is the one I'd recommend to you at the moment. If you're a fan of PlayStation controllers with symmetrical thumbsticks, this is perfect for you, because it's essentially an updated version of the DualShock 4 with back buttons and advanced TMR thumbsticks. It's also extremely comfortable in the hands and would be a perfect tool for any cozy Nintendo title.

Could showing up at a store work?
A friend of mine secured a Switch 2 pre-order the other day, all because he was walking past a GameStop store and decided to try his luck going inside and asking if they had any pre-orders available.
It's not exactly the easiest or most convenient thing these days, but if you're having trouble catching one of these ludicrously quick bursts of pre-order stock online, why not try your local GameStop, GAME, Target, Argos, or whichever retailer is in your region? You never know what could happen, and sometimes individual stores are allocated a certain level of stock for launch days and pre-orders, and since they only assign them to that physical retailer, you might strike gold because no one else has thought to ask the question.
What is there to play on Switch 2?

Still on the fence about pre-ordering a Nintendo Switch 2 ahead of launch day? I understand your hesitancy, and actually, I applaud it. Sometimes, consoles launch without feeling like they have enough new games to really warrant their price tags immediately. When that happens, it can really suck to see discounts on the console arrive a year or two in when newcomers can then enjoy loads of great games at once.
If you'd like to know a bit more about Switch 2 and what you'll be able to play on it on Day 1, take a look at our list of upcoming Switch 2 games for 2025 and beyond. That page collates a detailed record of every Switch 2 game that we've heard about so far and when it's releasing. It even talks about some games that we don't have concrete dates for, speculating when they could arrive.
The UK Nintendo store still has plenty Legend of Zelda Amiibo to go around

For whatever reason, those of you in the US have been able to pre-order the brand new Legend of Zelda amiibo for the Switch 2 for weeks now, but only recently have the little figures finally been available in the UK.
It's been a few days since the listings for each amiibo first appeared on the official UK Nintendo store, and surprisingly, they're still in stock, ready to pre-order right this very second. Like all orders on the site, you do have to log in to your Nintendo account to grab one, but it's worth it if you want to complete your Zelda amiibo collection and get access to their unlockable in-game goodies.

Quick stock update:
Let's take stock and see what the lay of the land is currently. Right now, in the US, you can pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2... *checks notes*... nowhere.
Ok, let's have a look at the UK instead.
Right now, you can pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2... *checks notes*... nowhere. Hmm.
Sorry folks, this isn't looking too exciting at the moment. We are in a bit of a stop-gap week in terms of the pre-launch calendar, so I suppose this is to be expected at the moment. We had initial buzz of pre-order stock in the US last week, and pre-orders have been available in the UK for a while now, so it's only natural that securing a console is difficult at the moment.
There is still some excitement ahead, though. Newegg and Amazon in the US have still to make their wares available, and both of those are large retailers with likely quite big stock pools. In the UK, things could be a little more scarce, but we'll be here to update you as and when there's news. As we get closer to launch, there's also the second batch of console stock to think about. Depending on how it's being manufactured, and in what quantities, and how tariffs are impacting these things, a larger second pool of consoles could be on the way, allowing each retailer to refresh their supplies. More on all of this as it develops.
How's this for Star Power?

Again, let me begin this post by saying that we still don't have official confirmation that third-party Nintendo Switch controllers will work on Nintendo Switch 2. We would assume that they will, but there are absolutely no guarantees. That said, if you're as big a fan of some Mario merch as we are, you might want to know about this controller for the OG Switch.
The Rematch Wireless controller from Turtle Beach (previously PDP) is getting a new design, and it shows Mario on an absolute tear thanks to a full dose of star power. It looks as cute as it does derpy, and if you're a fan, it's available to pre-order at Turtle Beach right now for $59.99 / £49.99.
Amazon is still quiet...
When you search for Nintendo Switch 2 at Amazon in the US, there's still nothing. Now, in fairness, sometimes this retailer's search function can leave out the most obvious and important listings, but even when you look through different sources, brands, and filters, you still can't see a listing page for the console. This is wild, but judging by how long it took the UK Amazon site to join the party, it's not exactly surprising.
Will we see Amazon launch its Switch 2 pre-order stock this week?
There's always tomorrow

I'm about to head off for the evening, and although it's been a quiet day, there were some UK stock drops that hopefully you managed to make the most of. The Amazon one, in particular, bodes well, especially since it's had supply for two days running for UK shoppers. I'd expect Amazon UK to be the one to watch tomorrow for a third batch.
In the US, I'd keep an eye on Newegg, and who knows, maybe we'll hear from Amazon here at some point too. Happy Switch 2 hunting, and catch you all tomorrow for another day.
Another day of Switch 2 stock hunting commences!

Howdy Switch 2 seekers!
I'm back on the ground on the hunt for Nintendo's upcoming handheld at retailers. Things have been pretty quiet, but retailers could shadow drop stock at any second, so it's worth keeping a close eye on the entire landscape. If you've already got the console secured, you'll want to stick with us for good game and accessory grabs too since tricks and savings could help you have a fully blown setup for launch.
Nintendo has given me one really annoying reason to buy a Pro Controller 2

While we wait for Switch 2 stock drops, I want to touch on something that's irritating me about the new Pro Controller. While the original can wake the OG handheld from sleep mode, only the new gamepad can turn on the sequel console using Bluetooth. This is going to be a massive pain for players who don't really need the new back buttons on the fresh pad and would rather not spend $80 for one.
Effectively, picking up a controller for your Switch 2 just got more complicated. Do you spend $45 on the original pad that's almost the same as the new one, or fork out $85 on one that's guaranteed to have full functionality? The dilemma extends to some third-party controllers, too, like the classic pads, so you'll need to check each as they arrive.

What's happening at Amazon right now?
The short answer? Absolutely nothing.
The long? The retailer doesn't have an active Switch 2 listing right now, even one with an out of stock sign slapped on it. That could be a sign that the storefront won't be getting any stock before launch. It has plenty of other Ninty handhelds, but it hasn't really joined the race yet.
Things are a little different in the UK, as Amazon has already had a wave of stock. I wouldn't take my eye off either site, but just know that the US version hasn't got any signs of life yet.

Completely new to Nintendo handhelds? The Switch Lite is a cheaper place to start

It's easy to forget that for some players out there, the Switch 2 could be their first handheld Nintendo console. I'm not saying those future fans shouldn't grab the newest system, but since it's hard to get hold of right now, and pretty expensive, I'd argue the existing Switch Lite might be a better starting point. It's going to play a chunk of the same games, is ridiculously small for something that can run Breath of the Wild, and is under $200 right now.
Look, I'll be telling most people to pre-order a Switch 2, but I know far too many casual players to ignore the fact that the Switch Lite is the right console for them, even if it lacks docking abilities.

Update: all is quiet on the Switch 2 pre-order battlefield
Switch 2 pre-orders are out of stock across the board. That's been the trend for most of the week, and it's really been the UK leading the charge with any replenishments. We'll likely see supplies dip in and out in the lead up to the big June launch, but for many retailers, it'll now be a case of building up inventory for the year ahead.
Switch 2 game pre-orders are plentiful, but be wary of empty boxes

The Switch 2 itself might be hard to find, but you can pre-order a whole bunch of new games specifically for the system. If you stick to first-party adventures, you'll end up with a new cartridge, and many larger third-party releases are making use of Nintendo's new key card system for that extra physicality.
However, just like the OG Switch, there will be some third-party games that are simply a code in a box. That means you'll be buying a download with a case to sit on your shelf, and that might not be worth placing money down on since you'll be able to download the same thing once the system arrives.

One of my favorite accessory makers now has a bunch of Steam Deck 2 goodies

Jsaux, one of my go-to brands for Steam Deck accessories, already has Switch 2 cases listed at Amazon. Better still, you can save a few dollars on each since many of them have coupons available. Options include a hard shell with cart holders built in for $16.99, a rugged case for $15.99, and an all-in-one carry case for $21.99.

PSA: GameStop will give you $25 off if you pick up in store with a Pro account
If you've got a GameStop Pro account, you'll absolutely want to try and order a Switch 2 online for in-store pickup when it's next available. By doing so, you'll actually get $25 off over $250 purchases, and since Ninty's handheld comes in at well over that, it more than qualifies. The offer includes games and accessories too, so if you're planning on a whole haul, you'll want to take advantage of the deal.
Save $25 on orders over $250 with GameStop Pro
Hold up, don't pick up the 128GB microSD Express card for Switch 2

I was just checking in on microSD Express card prices since you'll need one for Switch game installs. Shopping for the new memory format is hard enough since there's a legacy of different classifications out there with slower speeds, but to make things more complicated, the 256GB version is only $10 more than the 128GB.
The one I'd grab is the Samsung version at Target since it's available to pre-order and cheaper than the SanDisk card. Even Amazon admits that the version should cost less with a disclaimer on page, and since the 265GB option is sort of scarce at retailers, I'd jump on this ASAP.

How are things in the UK?
Just like the US, things are pretty quiet when it comes to Switch 2 UK stock. The United Kingdom did get something of a head start and had plenty of handhelds at retailers for a few weeks, but the dust has firmly settled since the initial pre-order launch. The retailers most likely to get the console back in stock are Amazon and The Game Collection, since both haven't been as active as Argos, Very, and EE a few weeks back.

Talk about a Link tax

I always need to be careful when browsing Amiibo since I am the type of person who will buy them all. However, I did notice that right now at Target, you're able to get some of the cutest figures of Peach, Daisy, and Zelda from the Wind Waker for $15.99, whereas the 30th Anniversary Ocarina of Time Link will set you back $34.99. I'd snatch up this trio of gals before they vanish, as it looks like supplies are running low.

The official Switch 2 all-in-one case is nice, but not $85 nice

Look, I love first-party Nintendo accessories since they are usually incredibly high quality. However, I can't in good conscious tell you to pick up the official Switch 2 all-in-one carry case when you can get a third-party one for under $40. In the US, I'd heard straight to Jsaux and grab its handheld holdall for $39.99, whereas Amazon UK has a Venom-branded option for £29.99.

Technically, you can use ordinary webcams with the Switch 2

Yes, you don't necessarily need a special Switch 2 webcam to use the handheld's new chat feature. The catch? Support for all models isn't a given, and the console has a tool to effectively check compatibility. That could ultimately end up being so much of a faff that it's worth just grabbing the real deal or a licensed cam instead, but if you stick to a well-known brand like Logitech, it will increase your chances of its drivers being compatible.
What you will need to do is make sure you're using a USB-C connector since you'll have to plug your webcam into the top of the Switch 2. Your existing camera should work if you use an adapter, but again, all unofficial accessories will be at the mercy of that "test USB camera" function in the settings menu.

Sega does what Nintendoes...

This is going to blow the mind of any '90s child exposed to the historic console wars, but I've been using a Sega gamepad to play Mario Kart. No, really, you can now buy a wireless version of the Saturn controller that replicates the look and feel of the original while adding modern connivences like analogue sticks, rumble, and an extra home button. It won't be everyone's cup of tea, but if you love classic circular gamepads and need something low-profile for your bag, this could be worth grabbing ahead of the Switch 2.

Checking in
No Switch 2 as of yet today, but hey, the US still has a whole day ahead of it.
If you're just waking up in the States, good morning! You haven't missed anything in the early hours, and I've been keeping a close eye on all the usual retailers waiting for drops. Things are expectedly sluggish, but I'm holding out hope that Amazon will get its act together and finally provide us with some Switch 2 goodness at some point.
Trust me, you'll want a chonky power bank for your Switch 2

As a Steam Deck player, I'm too aware of the woeful battery life powerful handhelds tend to deliver. Since the Switch 2 is rated to last between 2 to 6.5 hours, depending on the game (looking at you, Cyberpunk 2077), I'd make picking up a power bank a priority so that you can play for longer on the go.
I use the Baseus Blade 100W to power virtually all of my handhelds, including the OG Switch. I fully intend on using it to charge my Switch 2 when it eventually arrives, and the fact it boasts a 20,000mAh capacity means it'll more than fit the bill. It's actually down to $53.99 at the moment, and I'd say that's a pretty nice price for a Power Bank with a stats-filled screen, a huge capacity, and a nice selection of ports for hooking everything up.
Baseus Blade 100W power bank | $129.99 $53.99 at Amazon
I'm already planning Mario Kart World garden parties

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but I am itching to get hold of my Switch 2 specifically so I can hook it up to a portable monitor. Why would I want to do that when it has a built-in screen? Well, I'll be torn between spending time outside in the sun and staying indoors with Ninty's new portable, and since it'll happily connect to screens like the 24.5-inch Uperfect Umax 24, I thought it'd be a neat idea to just do both.
I don't know about you, but being able to easily plug the Switch 2 into a bigger screen that can be easily taken outside sounds like one hell of a summer plan. I'm even texting my partner as I type this, asking if they'd be up for a Mario Kart beach trip. If all this excites you in the same way, you'll want to take a peek at the monitor, as while costs a pretty penny, you're getting a lightweight 1440p 165Hz panel for less than a Switch 2 bundle.
Uperfect Umax 24 portable monitor | $459.99 at Amazon
Still no stock
This has been one of the quietest Switch 2 stock hunting days yet. However, make no mistake, I'm not remotely giving up the search for pre-orders, and sometimes retailers end up with drops when you'd least expect. I'd still keep your eye on the ball in the US and UK if you've get to grab the handheld, as even if things are ultimately running dry, it's not over yet.
What Switch 2 alternatives are out there for under $500?

It's safe to say the Switch 2 isn't the only handheld out there that can run full-blown games. While there was once a time when Nintendo's console was the only portable way to play adventures just as vast as any, rivals like the Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally, and even mobile devices can pull off similar tricks.
If you're looking for maximum versatility and access to just about every PC storefront imaginable, the ROG Ally is a safe bet. It's going to furnish you with a 1080p 120Hz screen and enough horsepower to run even new games, but it won't quite hit 4K in the same way as the Switch 2 since it'll be using Nvidia DLSS.
Naturally, the Steam Deck OLED is also a strong contender for players who are itching to buy all those cheap Steam games but still maintain a console-like experience. It isn't going to punch quite as hard as other portable PCs out there, but if it's mostly indies you're aiming to play, you won't be disappointed with what Valve's system has to offer.
What I will say, though, is that comparing the Switch 2 to any of these handhelds isn't always useful, so keep that in mind when deciding which handheld is right for you.
Asus ROG Ally | $549.99 at Amazon
Ahead of more stock drops, I'd think about how much the Switch 2 will really cost
The Switch 2 starts at $449.99, but is that really how much you'll end up paying at the checkout? Some of you might get away with sticking to that MSRP if you're planning on just playing games you already own, but let's be real - you're going to need a bunch of extra stuff with the handheld at launch.
If you go for the Mario Kart World bundle, you'll be saving compared to buying separate cartridges, but it'll bring things up to $499.99. If you've no interest in plumbers who shouldn't have a driver's licence, you'll be looking at $69.99 for an alternative outing like Donkey Kong Bananza. That'll bring you to $519.98 if you go down that route. Then, you'll have to factor in any potential essentials like cases, microSD cards, and anything else that you might need, as all of that may bring you over the $600 line.
Retailers that might not be on your radar
It makes sense to stick with a bunch of set retailers when checking Switch 2 stock, but there are tech stores that could end up with pre-orders at some point. Newegg stands out to me as one that players might not think to check since it normally specialises in PC parts, but it actually has a listing for the console live. B&H Photo also once stocked Ninty's OG console, so there's always a chance that could happen again in the future.
At this stage, it's just worth keeping your options open, and if that means checking a few extra retailers, I'd say it's worth it.

And now we wait

A full day's worth of UK Switch 2 pre-order hunting is coming to a close, and we now simply need to wait and see if anything pops up in the US. As the week comes to a close, we might see some retailers finally drop some options, so I'd keep a close eye on every storefront just in case.
Personally, I'd keep refreshing Amazon just in case Switch 2 listings finally show up. Even if stock isn't available, it'll be good to have somewhere to instantly head to in the instance that drops happen. The same goes for Walmart, and if you're signed up for notifications everywhere else, you should be well covered.
Guess who's back, back again

Good morning fellow Ninty fans! we're back to update you on all the UK and US Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order stock that's out there, and make sure you have it, along with any games and accessories, in your hands come June 5.
It's a little bit quiet out there this Friday morning, but that's why I'm here all day to use my gaming hardware hunting skills and find any Switch 2 pre-orders as they go live.
If you're new here, I recommend keeping a tab open with this live blog so you don't miss anything! Now, let's get to the Switch 2 fun.
Remember - 12 OG Switch games will receive free Switch 2 updates

If you're concerned about having to re-buy updated versions of your favorite Switch games in the future, hold your horses. Nintendo confirmed that 12 original Switch games are getting free Switch 2 updates!
On the Nintendo US site, Nintendo explains that after hooking up your Switch 2 to the internet, you can "download free updates that may improve performance or add support for features such as GameShare in select games."
The list includes ARMs, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Clubhouse Games 51 Worldwide Classics, The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening, The Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, Game Builder Garage, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and Big Brain Academy Brain vs. Brain.
US and UK Stock Check-in

As you can probably guess, it's been pretty quiet this morning, with no current Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order drops in sight. That being said, you never know what can happen, so don't click away just yet.
In the US, Nintendo is still set to start handing out online Switch 2 pre-order invites on May 8, which is just days away. So any of you who match their strict criteria have a chance to get one right from the source.
For UK Ninty fans, it's equally as quiet. But that makes sense given those across here, across the pond, have had far longer time to grab their own. I've seen musing online that some people have had luck popping into physical Currys stores to pre-order a Switch 2, and even that some have managed to grab one at Smyths Toys, but both sites currently list the console (and its Mario Kart World bundle) as out of stock for now.
Switch 2 is in stock at Amazon UK - if you're fast enough
In a surprising turn of events, there are some Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders available via Amazon UK right now.
I checked for myself, and was indeed able to add the Nintendo Switch 2 to my basket for £429.99 at Amazon, so this isn't a fluke. It's very likely by the time you see this post, they'll all be gone, as is the way with one of the most highly anticipated console launches in history.
TheGameCollection is full to the brim with Switch 2 accessories

If you didn't catch that blink and you'll miss it, Switch 2 stock at Amazon UK, don't feel too bad. Even my typing could barely keep up with how quickly they lasted.
Maybe these funky Switch 2 accessory pre-orders might cheer you up in the meantime? Right now, TheGameCollection has a ton of accessories available to pre-order, including not Nintendo's first-party offerings, but some travel cases from brand STEALTH, and a magnetic quad charger for your new Joy-Con 2 controllers.

Want Switch 2 games? Walmart has you covered

Whether you've already secured your Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order, or just want to be as prepared as possible by getting as many games as you possibly can - Walmart has you sorted.
Right now, you can pre-order everything from the latest launch titles, like Mario Kart World, to my personal most highly anticipated game, No Sleep for Kaname Date, from the US retailer. Just be sure to double-check the release dates, as not everything is set to drop on June 5, the same day as the brand-new handheld.

PSA - Resellers are not your friends

I know we hammer this home a lot, but it's worth saying every day. No matter if you're absolutely desperate to get hold of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 as quickly as possible, or if you have a loved one with a birthday coming up, please don't give resellers your hard-earned cash.
Yes, I know Switch 2 pre-order stock is quiet in the US and UK right now, but the idea of anyone giving in and resorting to the over-priced listings on auction sites like eBay hurts me to my soul. Gaming is getting more expensive every day (just look at those recent Xbox price hikes), so it's not fair if you're left spending even more just to have a new Switch 2 at all.
That's why we're here, to let you know of any Switch 2 pre-order drops, so you can pay the MSRP and only more if you want to get some games, and accessories along with it. If you're in the US, remember there's still the official Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invites to come on May 8 - so there's options out there. And hopefully more to come.
I'd recommend keeping a tab open for Amazon UK today

Over an hour ago, I was able to pop a Nintendo Switch 2 in my Amazon UK basket, as some stock went up for a minute or so. I didn't check out, namely because I got my Switch 2 pre-order from Argos earlier last month. However, I still recommend having a tab open for Amazon UK and refreshing every few minutes.
You never know when the retailer will unleash a few more Switch 2 pre-orders throughout the day. (When they do, I'll be sure to let you know too!)

Strike a pose - Switch 2 camera pre-orders are still in stock

The Switch 2 pre-order stock (both the US and UK) is less than ideal today, but I'm forever thankful it's not as difficult to get hold of the Switch 2 accessories. I fully expected first-party peripherals like the new Switch 2 Pro controller to be unavailable everywhere, but it, and accessories like the official Switch 2 camera, are still in stock at a ton of retailers.
Right now, you can pick up both the Switch 2 camera and HORI's officially licensed Piranha Plant Camera from retailers like Walmart and Best Buy, though I recommend the basic Switch 2 camera personally, as it's a 1080p USB-C camera. Meanwhile, HORI's model, though it looks ferociously charming, is only 480p, so its quality won't be ideal, even in the most well-lit of living rooms.

There's still time to stock up on extra Switch 2 storage

If you didn't know already, the Nintendo Switch 2 won't be able to use the microSD cards you have for your original Ninty hardware. Instead, you have to pick up a microSD Express Card, to give your new handheld more than the 256GB worth of onboard storage.
Fortunately, there's already officially licensed cards available to pre-order right now, which are set to launch the same day as the console. That way, if you're planning on taking a ridiculous amount of Mario Kart World screenshots via the new photo mode, or need to make room for all your older Switch game installs, you'll be well prepared.

If you must pre-order any Switch 2 accessory, make it this one

So you may be thinking, "hey, that's an AC adaptor, that's not something to prioritize," and I get it. For one, the Switch 2 comes with an official AC adaptor, so you don't have to grab a second, but here's the thing - they are the most handy Switch 2 accessory to have a spare of.
I'm very lucky to have not one, but three Nintendo Switch consoles in my house. My original launch Switch, my OLED model, and my partner's Switch. That means there are three spare original Switch chargers kicking around, and that has come in handy more times than I can count.
With a spare AC adaptor, you can have your new Switch 2 dock set up at all times, and keep your second one with you as you travel, or just have it stashed away in your bedroom for the nights you want to curl up with Mario Kart World. It's not as exciting as pre-ordering the Switch 2 Pro controller or one of the Legend of Zelda amiibo figures, but trust me, you'll thank me later.

The latest amiibo cards are up for grabs in the UK

The amiibo pre-order situation has been pretty weird, at least by my standards. The brand-new Legend of Zelda and Street Fighter 6 amiibo figures have been available to pre-order starting from $29.88 at Walmart and other retailers in the US, but those of us in the UK had to wait a little longer before they made an appearance.
Now, the brand-new Street Fighter 6 amiibo cards are available to pre-order from the official Nintendo UK online store, but they haven't yet appeared on US retailers. You can never win!
If you're in the UK and loved collecting the older Animal Crossing amiibo cards, you can grab the first starter set right now for £24.99, which includes 6 amiibo cards to use alongside the new Switch 2 version of Street Fighter 6.

I'm ridiculous excited for the latest AI Somnium Files for the Switch 2

Playing the first AI The Somnium Files game on my OG Switch was a literal game-changing moment. Its suspenseful murder mystery plot, sci-fi setting, witty writing, and sublime English dub made it easily slip into the list of my favorite games of all time, and that was before I played it for the second time on the PS5.
Now, the third game in the series, No Sleep For Kaname Date, is available to pre-order for the Switch 2, and I cannot wait. The physical version of this game is on a Game-Key Card, but if you're into pre-order goodies, this version comes with two exclusive holographic stickers.
This isn't a launch title, unfortunately, as the game is set to release on July 25. However, at least that gives you plenty of time to finish the first two games (which are available for the original Switch physically and via the Nintendo eShop) - just don't blame me if this series becomes all you can think about for the foreseeable future.

US Switch 2 pre-order stock check-in

If you're just waking up in the US, I don't have the most exciting news. Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have been sparse so far today, with none of the biggest retailers, whether it's Walmart, Amazon, or Best Buy, dropping any last-minute bursts of stock.
Like I've said many times before, remember that the official Switch 2 pre-order invites will be dropping on May 8, like previously planned. So if you meet all of Nintendo's strict criteria, you can still grab one right from the source next week, instead!

Don't get your hopes up - make sure you meet Nintendo's criteria to pre-order a Switch 2 on May 8!

If you're in the US and you'd prefer to get your Nintendo Switch 2 straight from the source, there's still time. Nintendo will be handing out online invites for Switch 2 pre-orders on May 8 on a first-come, first-served basis, but remember, there's a list of criteria you must meet first before you can secure your new handheld.
The official Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order site states that you must:
- Be a Nintendo Account holder (in the US or Canada)
- Be at least 18 years old
- As of April 2, 2025, you must have been the one who purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership
- You must have had a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for a minimum of 12 months
- You must have opted in to share gameplay data and have at least 50 hours total gameplay hours
UK Switch 2 pre-order stock check-in

In the UK, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order stock has also been pretty quiet, but there have been some units around, if you know where to look. Earlier this morning, the Mario Kart World Switch 2 bundle was available to pre-order for £429.99 at Amazon, but it disappeared in a matter of seconds. I was able to pop it in my basket, so I promise its existence today isn't an urban myth!
Alternatively, I've seen some reports that some have managed to secure their Switch 2 pre-orders by visiting a physical Currys store, and honestly, if you're working past any shop in the UK known for selling games consoles, I'd recommend going in and asking - what's the worst that can happen?

The Street Fighter 6 amiibo figures are calling me

If you're new here - "Hi, I'm Rosalie, and I spend far too much cash on amiibo figures."
I even use an app to keep track of the ones I have, and ones like these brand-new Street Fighter 6 amiibo figures, that I still have yet to pre-order.
I won't lie to you, though, these stylish collectibles that are larger than other figures in the amiibo line-up are calling to me. I haven't even played Street Fighter 6 yet, but I know for a fact these toys-to-life accessories would look the part next to my Chun Li figure collection (of course I have one of those), or the rest of my thousands of dollars' worth of amiibos figures.

The Switch 2 GameCube controller is somehow still available

Honestly, I would have expected to see the official new Switch 2 GameCube controller sell out and be listed by resellers on eBay by now. But in some sort of Ninty-miracle, you can still pre-order the controller for £58.99 in the UK via the official Nintendo online store.
Those in the US will have to wait a little longer to get theirs, as I suspect it'll be available from May 8 onwards, the same time as the Switch 2 pre-order invites go live. But the wait will be worth it, especially if you plan to play the new GameCube NSO game library on June 5 and want that proper nostalgic controller feeling.
Note: You will need to be logged into your Nintendo account to pre-order!

It's oh so quiet
As we get further into Friday, there's still no Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order drops, whether it's in the US or the UK. There was a glimmer of hope this morning, with the Switch 2 being available on Amazon UK for a few seconds, but ever since, it's been eerily quiet ever since - and that's a major bummer.
If you have cash to burn, you can pre-order Switch 2 games, accessories, of course, the amiibo figures, in time for June 5. So at least that's something.

There's no shortage of Switch 2 games

There may be a shortage of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders right now, but there's no shortage of its games. Right now, you can still pre-order a ton of games for the upcoming handheld, from Donkey Kong Bananza to Daemon X Machina: Titanic Scion (what a name.)

Don't forget that Switch 2 Pro controller

I will admit, I actually skipped picking up the original Switch Pro controller, namely as I didn't have the funds to splash on yet another accessory for my Ninty handheld. Instead, I grabbed an 8BitDo adaptor and used my Wii U Pro controller to play games like Super Mario Odyssey instead, but this generation, I may have to give in and grab the Switch 2 Pro controller asap.
Not only is it more ergonomic and so comfier to hold than the Joy-Cons, but it's also decked out with amiibo reading support, the new 'C' button for GameChat, the newly upgraded HD rumble, a 3.5mm audio jack, and new GL and GR remappable back buttons.

You can still pre-order a spare set of Joy-Con 2 controllers - and you probably should

Nintendo has confirmed that sadly, there aren't any hall effect sensors to be found with the Switch 2, which does make me worry that drift is going to be a concern this generation. We obviously won't know for sure until June 5, and after hours upon hours of using the new upgraded controllers, however, having an extra pair can help on that front.
With an extra pair, should the Joy-Cons that come with your console give up the ghost, you'll already have something to rely on. Plus, an extra pair also means you actually have four controllers in total to play games like Mario Kart World or Super Mario Party Jamboree, Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV.
A word of warning, they don't come cheap. And you can use your older Joy-Con controllers, though there are some compatibility issues with some games. That being said, if you have the cash to burn, grabbing a spare set of Joy-Con 2 controllers is sound advice if you ask me.

Switch 2 hunting tips for the weekend

And so, my time of aiding you through your Switch 2 pre-ordering journey is coming to an end. At least, where this Friday is concerned. But, as we approach the weekend, I want to leave you with some tips, so you're well equipped to tack on the weekend, and whatever Switch 2 pre-order excitement it brings.
Firstly, don't give in to resellers. I know, it's hard to submit and just grab one of the many Switch 2 pre-orders currently listed on auction sites like eBay but you don't need to, trust me. For one, they're gonna be far more expensive than the MSRP, and the Switch 2 isn't the cheapest handheld out there to begin with. Not to mention, last weekend retailers like Walmart did drop some more Switch 2 stock, so as long as you regularly check all the retailers we've listed above throughout Saturday and Sunday, you might just get lucky.
Secondly, remember Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invites are dropping next week. If you're in the UK, we've already had our chance to grab the handheld through Nintendo, however, in the US, you can expect pre-order invites to start being sent out (on a first come, first served basis) from May 8. Don't forget that you need to meet Ninty's strict criteria in order to get one, but it's still worth checking your emails next week just in case.
There's also plenty of Switch 2 accessory pre-orders to go around, so don't worry if you haven't yet grabbed the new Pro controller, or a Switch 2 camera. If you've been waiting for payday, or just need a little more time to save, there's still a ton of first-party and third-party accessories available to pre-order for the handheld today, and over the weekend.
Lastly, don't stress too much. That's a lot coming from me, but at the end of the day, a gaming console isn't worth getting too worked up about. If you're desperate to grab one though, please do regularly check the above retailers, as you never know what stock may appear. And check back in with us next week, where we'll be continuing to help you grab Switch 2 of your very own.
