Nick Kyrgios’ summer transformation continued unabated as he picked up his first ATP Tour title win in three years at the Citi Open.

Playing in his first tournament since being runner-up at Wimbledon, Kyrgios eased past Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka 6-4, 6-3 to win in Washington.

The Australian did not drop his serve throughout the tournament in the perfect warm-up for the US Open later this month when he will be among the favourites on current form.

The result also saw him shoot up 26 places in the ATP rankings to 37th and on the precipice of being seeded for New York and the final Grand Slam of the year.

Following the seventh title of a rollercoaster career, the 27-year-old Australian said: “I’m extremely proud of myself and my team. It was a really, really good week. It was hard fought. I had some incredibly tough matches. I tried to be as professional as I could. I’m just happy to be sitting here making history along the way.

“To see where I was at last year to now, it’s just an incredible transformation. I think it’s a reflection of the last six months of how hard I have been working. I’m just really happy to continue the form after Wimbledon.”
