Tennis star Nick Kyrgios won’t be suiting up for the French Open later this month after sustaining an injury during a robbery at his home at the start of May.
During an incident in Canberra, Australia on May 1, Kyrgios’s mother was allegedly held at gunpoint by a home invader, who proceeded to steal the Tesla of the Australian tennis player, police say.
Kyrgios’s agent, Daniel Horsfall, announced Thursday morning that his client would not be partaking in the French Open as a result of an injury he suffered during the incident.
Horsfall indicated that the injury was to his left foot, but the cause of the ailment is not precisely known, explaining they suspect it occurred during the “high-adrenaline rush of everything” during the robbery at his home.
In turn, he clarified that the 28-year-old was not sitting out due to the knee injury he sustained in January. That injury held him out of the Australian Open and required arthroscopic surgery.
“Basically, it’s just set him back about two-and-a-half weeks in terms of his loading schedule to get back on court for what we thought was going to be the Grand Slam,” Horsfall said, via Reuters.
“He couldn’t slide, couldn’t get on court because every time he put a shoe on it moved and it would re-open,” added Horsfall.
A 32-year-old man was arrested in Canberra after Kyrgios and police used an app on the tennis star’s phone to help track down the stolen Tesla.
