Newcastle star admits new deal was 'easy decision' amid 'bright future' prediction

Kieran Trippier admits extending his contract with Newcastle United was an 'easy decision' to make. The England international was the first post-takeover signing on Tyneside, and a year later the full-back has signed a new deal to commit his future until the summer of 2025.

Trippier made an instant impact in the black-and-white, and has started every Premier League fixture so far this season. The 32-year-old has often led Newcastle as the stand-in skipper in the absence of captain Jamaal Lascelles, and has helped Eddie Howe's side earn the best defensive record in the Premier League so far.

The England international has enjoyed success at previous clubs Atletico Madrid and Tottenham, but is adamant he is now playing the 'best football' of his career with the Magpies. Speaking after his contract extension was announced on Friday evening, he told NUFC TV: "To be honest, I think it was easy because I'm enjoying my football.

"Personally, I think I'm playing the best football of my career here at Newcastle, so I think it was an easy decision to make. We're challenging for the cup, we're in a good position in the league and it's a bright future ahead for Newcastle."

Trippier previously worked under Howe during the Newcastle head coach's brief stint in charge at Burnley more than a decade ago. The right-back is confident he has found an 'extra level' in his performances this season as a result of working with the Magpies boss.

Trippier added: "I've had a great relationship with the manager for many years. That was another easy decision for why I came to Newcastle in the first place, and I feel like he's brought an extra level out of me this season, tactically as well.

"The gaffer deserves huge credit, and I thank him for everything he's done for me throughout my career. I think it's a great moment for the team and the club in this present time, and we now just want to look forward and be positive."
