New goalkeeper, Alfie Devine status - 4 things spotted in Tottenham training before Chelsea

New goalkeeper involved

Tuesday's session at Hotspur Way saw one of the club's talented youngsters make the step up from the academy to first-team training. The player in question was goalkeeper Josh Keeley, who joined the club last summer in a deal from St. Patrick's Athletic.

The 19-year-old has been a regular in Premier League 2 this campaign, playing 12 games and keeping one clean sheet in the process. Named in the travelling party for last summer's tour of South Korea, Keeley got the chance to work with the first team again on Tuesday as he was spotted on the training pitch.

Usually having four goalkeepers in Hugo Lloris, Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman, the Frenchman's absence appears to have handed Keeley the opportunity to step up. It's one he will be determined to grasp with both hands as he looks to make a big name for himself at the club in the future.

Other youngsters involved

Keeley wasn't the only Tottenham youngster involved in the session ahead of the upcoming home clash vs Chelsea. Others spotted with the rest of the first team included Maksim Paskotsi, Brooklyn Lyons-Foster, Kallum Cesay and Romaine Mundle.

The young quartet could be seen sitting on a bench waiting to go out for training in a short video posted on the club's Twitter account. Harry Kane was the main focus of the video but the short clip did highlight the respect between the first team and academy as the England captain high-fived all four players before putting his boots on.

Devine status

Alfie Devine was once again involved in training with the rest of the senior squad at Hotspur Way. Making a huge impression at the club since his switch from Wigan Athletic in July 2020, it does appear that the highly-rated midfielder is very much part of the first team.

Although he has yet to make the matchday squad in the league this term, he did come off the bench in the FA Cup win over Portsmouth and he was also an unused substitute last Tuesday in the Champions League defeat vs AC Milan. In a video of Tottenham's training session before the Leicester game, Devine was with the rest of the players working in the gym before going outside, as opposed to the academy players who usually just link up with the first team when they are about to go out to work on the training pitch.

Devine could once again be seen putting in the work in the gym, with another image from the session showing him stood behind Cristian Romero in a passing exercise.

The man in charge

As Antonio Conte continues to rest up in Italy following recent surgery to remove his gallbladder, assistant head coach Cristian Stellini is the man in charge at present. Tottenham have fared very well under him so far, notably beating Man City and West Ham when he has taken on the responsibility in his fellow countryman's absence.

Admitting after last Sunday's win over the Hammers that he is expecting Conte back next week following the showdown against Chelsea, Stellini will once again be in control for the London derby. The Italian was seen keeping a careful eye on his players in Tuesday's session, with one image then showing him giving out instructions as Pape Matar Sarr watched on.
