Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are one month into wedded bliss, and we’re still getting trickles of information about their star-studded, 1,000-guest, Fourth of July weekend nuptials at Madison Square Garden. However, according to a couple of the guests who were there, we can’t believe everything we hear. Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson opened up a little about their experience, as well as the “weirdos” spreading false rumors.
The evening of July 3 inside MSG has been described as “intimate” and “powerful,” as Travis Kelce apparently had 300-pound football players crying over his emotional vows. Sportscasters Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson opened up about their own experiences at the celebrity wedding of the year, and the word they both used was “magical.” However, they were disheartened to see some of the rumors circulating in the aftermath. On their Calm Down podcast, Andrews said:
The one thing I'll say, and yes, I am all for protecting their privacy…. We get very protective of our gal, but there were a couple times that I saw some Nasty McNasterson headlines, just weirdos like, wanting to tip off people about things that didn't happen. And I was a little worried about my Sancerre intake and that I was going to fire back on the old replies, you know? I didn’t, but people are weird. People are gross.
Unfortunately, there are going to be people who want to insert themselves into Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s big day at any cost, so unless it’s Jason Kelce talking about his favorite moments or a confirmed guest like Saturday Night Live’s Marcello Hernández relaying how he ran into Tom Cruise, all rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.
For example, there were conflicting reports about the food service in the days after the nuptials, with some sources saying it was "a bit of a s--- show," with long buffet lines and not enough seating. Others, however, said everything went perfectly, with plenty of food stations to satisfy everyone’s tastes.
It’s understandable that Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson would want to clear the air regarding any negativity surrounding their friends. The sports broadcasters have been vocal about their love of Taylor Swift, telling Travis Kelce when they visited his New Heights podcast that “Taylor’s impact cannot be overlooked” in terms of getting more girls into sports.
Thompson and Andrews actually take credit for Taylor and Travis’ relationship, which started back in 2023. After the Chiefs tight end called Swift out for not meeting him after a show at Arrowhead Stadium, the Calm Down hosts started advocating hard for the “You Need to Calm Down” singer to give Kelce a chance.
Of course, they’re not the only ones who think they’ve had a hand in this great love story: SNL’s Please Don’t Destroy may have played a role, as they recalled Taylor Swift realizing how funny Travis Kelce is after seeing his sketch with the comedy trio. Then, Swift’s docuseries The End of an Era seems to show her mom Andrea Swift being the one to play matchmaker.
There certainly appeared to be a lot of stars aligning for these two to get together, and now that they are officially one month into marriage, we can all bask in their happiness and groovy dance moves. Just don’t believe everything you hear about the wedding.
