New date confirmed for shared campus opening in Newmains

Pupils from two Lanarkshire primary schools will have to wait just a little longer to move into their new shared campus.

Kids from Newmains and St Brigid’s Primary were due to move into their new campus in January next year.

However, that date has been put back due to a ‘technical issue’ on the site.

Now a new date is set to be confirmed with pupils now expected to officially move in a month later.

Murdostoun independent councillor Robert John McKendrick stated on social media: “This is just a short note to update you on the proposed handover date for the Newmains and St Brigid’s Community Hub project.

“The projected building handover will be on February 6 and it is anticipated that the establishments would decant over the week commencing February 13, with opening on Monday, February 20.”

As well as the two primary schools, the £20 million site will also include a family learning centre and community facilities.

Children and young people, staff, parents and the local community are playing a significant role in developing the design for the campus.

They have been working with the design team and senior council officers to ensure the design of the campus reflects the educational aspirations of the council, taking into account the requirements of the local community and the natural heritage and architecture of the area.

The amenities will extend to high quality outdoor and indoor sports facilities, extensive landscaped shared playground for both schools and dedicated outside play space for the Family Learning Centre.

A turf cutting ceremony on the site took place in July 2021, presented by the then convener of education and families, Frank McNally.

Elected members of the ward and children from Newmains Family Learning Centre attended.
