New artisan market to launch in 'unsung' part of Manchester city centre

A new monthly market featuring local artisan products and food and drink stalls is to launch in an "unsung" part of Manchester city centre at the weekend. The first MeadowSide Market will take place on Saturday, October 8, on Aspin Lane, near Angel Meadow Park.

The plan is for the market to run on the second Saturday of every month. It's all part of the organisers' plan to shine a spotlight on areas of Manchester that are currently "under-utilised".

The area for the market is part of the NOMA district, where the huge Co-Op building looms just on the edge of the city centre. The market will see a range of local, independent stalls alongside street food and drink with live music between 10am and 5pm.

For the opening weekend market, along with other vendors, visitors can browse ornamental, handmade pots and plants from The Ornamental House and check out vintage clothing from Sunflower Vintage. A selection of food and drink will also be available, including from Grounded coffee, Dough so Good pizzeria and Blackjack Brewery.

Developers Far East Consortium are behind the launch of the markets, which form part of its plans to put unsung parts of Manchester city centre to better use under the FOUND event brand.

Andrew Bradley-Nixon, sales and marketing director at FEC, said: “We’re really pleased to be unlocking spaces across the city that aren’t that well-used at the moment by putting on this type of community event.

“Manchester already has some great artisan markets, but this one will be in the heart of the city centre. We think the stalls and street food will go down a treat and look forward to hosting the first market of many this weekend.”

Juvenal Melo Fert at The Ornamental House, said: “These regular markets are really important for a small business such as ours, and we’re really excited to be part of the initial event alongside other talented local business owners.”

MeadowSide Market will be at Aspin Lane, Manchester, on Saturday October 8 from 10am to 5pm.
