Mum of Scotland's biggest family with 13 kids forced back to work due to energy prices

The matriarch of Scotland's biggest family has been forced back to work due to the cost of living crisis taking over the country.

Roy and Emma Hann will take part in a new BBC documentary that will delve into the lives of two of Scotland's largest families throughout a busy 12 months.

This three-part documentary series captures the highs and lows of life inside Scotland’s biggest families. Filmed over the course of a typically energetic and eventful 12 months, the series follows the fortunes of the Sullivans in Lossiemouth and the Hanns in Dundee.

Roy and Emma are parents to Scotland’s biggest family. They have 13 children - with eight still at home in their six bedroom semi-detached house in the west of the city.

The couple were brought up in the Mormon faith where they were taught not to delay having children. They reflect on that experience which has shaped their lives and talk about the emotions and challenges involved when they moved away from the church six years ago.

Making ends meet is a constant challenge and with prices going up, Emma will soon be going out to earn a wage to top up the salary Roy is paid as a senior nurse.

Ninety miles north of Dundee, change is in the air for the Sullivans. Parents Ben, an engineer at the nearby Royal Air Force base, and Zoe, who used to work in administration, share their four bedroom home with their eleven children – and there’s a new baby on the way.

Ben chronicles events in the hectic family life for an increasingly popular social media channel he has launched, including the fun and chaos involved in organising a day out at the nearby beach.

As Christmas approaches, in Dundee the Hanns prepare for a photoshoot with the press while Zoe’s forward planning in Lossiemouth ensures the Sullivans won’t run short of festive fare.

Scotland's Biggest Families will air on BBC One Scotland on Monday, October 31 at 8pm.
