Motherwell boss 'beats Celtic and Rangers' to Manager of the Month' award

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell has been named the Scottish Premiership Glen’s Manager of the Month for February.

Kettlewell, who took over from Steven Hammell initially in a caretaker role, has grabbed four wins and a draw in his time in charge, the best start for a Motherwell gaffer since Roger Hynd in 1977.

In February alone, Kettlewell took wins over St Mirren and Hearts, and engineered a 1-1 draw at Kilmarnock, thanks to Callum Slattery’s last-gasp free kick goal.

Those results had followed defeats against St Johnstone and Aberdeen in the Premiership, and a 3-1 Scottish Cup fifth round defeat at Raith Rovers.

Motherwell are now ninth place in the Premiership table and have picked up 30 points from their 28 games played.

Kettlewell said: “This is a reward for the amount of effort the staff at this club have put in this last month.

“It has been a good start, but our job is far from done, and now I want us to continue moving forward for a strong end to the season.”

Colin Matthews, CEO of Glen’s owner the Loch Lomond Group, said: “The stunning turnaround in Motherwell’s results after Stuart was appointed was the key element in our voting panel’s decision this month – especially as they were other strong performances in the league, from both Celtic and Rangers.

“However, given the predicament the Fir Park club were in before Stuart took over, the big performances against St Mirren and Hearts, as well as the way in which they fought to take a point at Rugby Park convinced our voting panel that he deserved to be Scottish Premiership Glen’s Manager of the Month.”
