Mohamed Salah overtakes Robbie Fowler to set stunning new Liverpool record

Mohamed Salah is now Liverpool's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League era after helping put Manchester United in their place on Sunday.

The Egyptian scored his 128th and 129th goals of his Premier League career at Anfield today and moved one above Robbie Fowler at the top of the recent ranks.

Heading into Sunday's encounter, Salah had scored 10 goals in 11 games against United - the most of any Reds player to feature in the fixture. And speaking to Sky Sports earlier in the week, the 30-year-old made his desire to add to that tally and equal Fowler's record clear.

"I'm aware of the records, this one especially," said Salah. "For me it's really special. When I came, after my first season I had like 31 goals and I was like, 'I want to be the top scorer for Liverpool in the Premier League'. It's something I am really chasing

"I have some good records at Liverpool. To be fair, as long as we achieve something with the team that's the most important thing for me. I'm so happy and proud to break records and win trophies in a team like Liverpool. I don't want to be in a smaller team and I'm the only one breaking records and that's it."

He added: "It would be nice to have the record in this big game especially against United. We know the relationship between United and Liverpool. Of course there is extra motivation but whoever scores (against United) I'm happy with it. Whenever the record comes I'll be happy, but this game we just need to win because we want to be closer to the top four.

"It's big because United at the moment are on a good run, winning almost every game and have a good squad and good players and the team has stability and confidence. We just need to play our game and try to enjoy and see."

At the time of writing, Liverpool were 6-0 up against United in a quite remarkable Anfield performance. Braces for Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Salah were part of an incredible afternoon in L4.
