Millie Bobbie Brown fans baffled by Stranger Things star's 'new' accent

Millie Bobby Brown left fans scratching their heads with her accent during her latest TV interview.

The 20-year-old was appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote her latest movie Damsel and spoke about her engagement to Jake Bongiovi, 21, which involved him popping the question while deep underwater scuba diving.

Despite the wild proposal story, the key detail people were most interested by was her voice.

Brown, who lived in Bournemouth, England, before moving to Florida in the US aged eight, normally speaks with a British accent, however here she had a distinctively American twang.

People rushed to share their thoughts on the comment section after the US late night chat show uploaded a clip to its official Instagram account.

They wrote: “Her accent is basically gone” and 'She doesn't sound British at all anymore!!'  “Why is she killing her British accent?” enquired another.

While others added: “Can't decide if she's British or American” and “Where is your British accent?” Some fans did however jump to her defence.

“Y'all realize she's been living in the US since she was like 11....so her accent's gonna change...her friends are American and she has an American fiancé,” penned one, adding: “If she's back in the UK or talking to her parents(like when she did her mom's voice) it goes back to British. I moved to the US at 11 from Jamaica and I'm the same way. You can still hear her British intonation and accent mixed in with the American.”

“For everyone saying that she doesn't have her British accent anymore bear in mind that she is currently filming ST5 (Stranger Things season 5) so she has been using her American accent more recently,” pointed out another.
