Miley Cyrus has branded Alex Cooper “kind of creepy” after the podcaster moved right next door to her.
Cyrus said in a speech during the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which premiered Tuesday, that she picked the Call Her Daddy star to host the reunion because she knew Cooper was a huge fan of the original Disney Channel show.
The 33-year-old singer teased onstage, “And Alex being a superfan, kinda creepy,” prompting the audience to laugh. “She’s also my neighbour, which is also creepy. She got money, and then she moved next door to me.”
She added, “Yeah, it was weird.”
The Disney legend said that Cooper, 31, appeared surprised when she found out that she had moved into a house in Cyrus’s Los Angeles neighborhood until the pop star reminded her that she had been to her home before for a podcast interview in 2020. Cyrus bought her ranch in Studio City in 2011, while Cooper moved into the neighborhood in 2022 with her now-husband Matt Kaplan.
Cyrus continued, “But anyways, thank you for being this host. Thank you for being so insanely dedicated to Hannah Montana.”
The “Best of Both Worlds” singer previously poked fun at Cooper in a Variety YouTube video ahead of the Hannah Montana special, where Cyrus was quizzed on how well she remembered the songs she performed on the Disney Channel show.
She easily identified the words to her alter ego’s hit song “Rockstar” in the video, reading out “Tai Chi practicing, snowboard champion/I could fix the flat on your car,” before calling out Cooper for not knowing the song’s lyrics.
“I know this because this is Alex Cooper, who hosted the Hannah 20th Special, this is her favorite Hannah Montana song,” Cyrus told Variety. “I asked her, does she actually know the lyrics to it? And she never knew that it says ‘Tai Chi practicing, snowboard champion.’”
She added: “She does have it tattooed on her arms, so I don’t know how she forgot.”

Cooper helped Cyrus to plan the Hannah Montana special, which is available on Disney+, by telling her what fans of the iconic series would want to see — including a guest star appearance by Selena Gomez and nostalgic details like the show’s transition music.
Hannah Montana, which ran from 2006 to 2011, followed Cyrus’s teenage character Miley Stewart while she lived a double life as a high school student and world-famous pop star Hannah Montana, becoming the performer whenever she put on her signature blonde wig.
