The Met Gala 2024 is set to captivate fashion enthusiasts with its upcoming edition. Recently, Vogue announced the official co-chairs for the monumental fashion event, and they are none other than Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. Taking place on May 6, this year's gala will celebrate vintage fashion and the enchanting world of fantasies with its theme, 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.' Alongside this announcement, the official dress code was also revealed: 'The Garden of Time.'
While both Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya are seasoned Met Gala attendees, often stealing the show with their iconic looks, Bad Bunny is a relative newcomer to the event, having only attended twice before. Furthermore, this will mark Chris Hemsworth's debut at the Met Gala. Fans were particularly thrilled to hear that Zendaya, at the age of 27, has been chosen as a co-chair even though she hasn't attended the major event since 2019. Social media buzzed with excitement, with fans expressing their anticipation for Zendaya's presence, some going as far as suggesting she should be a co-chair every year.
Not everyone, however, was enamored with the floral theme of 'The Garden of Time.' A few individuals jokingly referenced 'The Devil Wears Prada' and its famous line, 'Florals for spring... groundbreaking!' Nevertheless, it is clear that the theme has piqued curiosity among fashion enthusiasts.
Joining the co-chairs are Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, who will serve as honorary co-chairs for the event. The participation of Loewe is significant as the Spanish luxury label is underwriting the gala. Additionally, the accompanying exhibition will showcase 250 garments from the Costume Institute's permanent collection, including some rarely seen pieces. The exhibition promises to incorporate elements such as AI (Artificial Intelligence), GCI (Graphic Communication and Interaction), and more, while highlighting themes inspired by land, sea, and sky.
Andrew Bolton, the curator in charge, described the exhibition as 'an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion.' The intention is to activate a sensorial appreciation of fashion through the show. With such a diverse and influential lineup, along with a theme that invites imagination and nostalgia, the Met Gala 2024 promises to be a fashion fairy tale that will reawaken the enchantment of the past and present it through the lens of timeless fashion.
