'Men dressed in black' smash their way into jewellers in 'ram raid'

A high street shop was "ram raided" and a quantity of jewellery was stolen from the front window display.

Merseyside Police was contacted following reports a car had deliberately rammed the front of Ramsdens on Prescot Road, Old Swan. Officers attended the jewellery and pawnbroking shop at around 1.45pm today, Thursday, October 6 where they found a smashed in front window.

Two men, dressed in black and carrying rucksacks, are reported to have exited the vehicle and grabbed a quantity of jewellery from the front shop display. They then fled the scene in the car which an eyewitness said had a "wrecked" front.

Another eyewitness said "smoke was pouring out the shop". The ECHO understands the fire service also attended the incident. Images taken by the ECHO at the scene showed a smashed front window and debris littering the floor. Nobody is believed to have been injured during the incident.

A cordon was put up around the shop and police officers currently remain at the scene. Merseyside Police has launched an investigation and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out in the local area.
