Meghan Markle takes swipe at Royals saying she and Prince Harry were 'happy' to leave UK

Meghan Markle has taken another swipe at the Royal Family, saying she and Prince Harry were “happy” to leave Britain.

The Duchess of Sussex claimed they were “upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy… just by existing”.

In an interview with US magazine The Cut, the Duchess of Sussex provides an insight into the couple's life in the States, revealing how she now also intends to return to Instagram.

Speaking to the fashion publication, for which Meghan underwent a ten-hour photo shoot for, she claimed they left the UK as they wanted financial freedom.

She said the move was not “reinventing the wheel”, claiming a “handful of princes and princesses and dukes” already have the “very arrangement they wanted”.

The mum-of-two did not name those she was referring to.

On leaving the UK, Meghan told the magazine the couple was willing to go to another Commonwealth country and work on behalf of the Royal Family - but wanted to make their own money.

"Then maybe all the noise would stop,” Meghan explained.

“Anything to just … because just by existing, we were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy.

"So we go, ‘Okay, fine, let’s get out of here. Happy to,’ ” she then said, raising her hands in a sign of mock defeat.

During the interview, Harry, 37, made brief appearances, at one point telling his wife she could “be a model”.

The only mention of his family comes when the Sussexes discuss working together on their Archwell company.

“Most people that I know and many of my family, they aren’t able to work and live together,” Harry said.

The magazine states he “enunciates” the word “family with a vocal eye roll”.

The Duchess of Sussex also recalled how during the premiere of The Lion King in 2019 in London, she was told by one well-wisher her marriage into the Royal Family was celebrated as much as the freeing of Nelson Mandela.

Meghan said: “I just had Archie. It was such a cruel chapter. I was scared to go out.”

She then recalled how a cast member from South Africa pulled her aside.

The Duchess added: “He looked at me, and he’s just like light.

"He said, ‘I just need you to know: When you married into this family, we rejoiced in the streets the same we did when Mandela was freed from prison.’ ”

Meghan also spoke about her return to social media.

She told the publication: "I’m getting back … on Instagram.”
