A man caught returning a bouquet of dead roses to Costco has the internet questioning the limits of Costco’s famous return policy.
On June 25, TikTok user @alikeyz posted an image to TikTok where a man was pictured returning dead roses to Costco. The video’s text overlay reads “POV: Seeing someone return dead roses at Costco […] Um sir they’re supposed to die.”
The video has amassed over 559,000 views as of Monday.
‘The limit does not exist’
The post fueled speculation regarding the limits of Costco’s return policy among commenters.
“Ppl pushing the limits on Costco returns,” stated one comment.
“I work at costco,” said one user. “Had someone try to return a dead plant. my manager asked him if he knew he needed to water it. Then proceeded to deny his return.”
“Costco gonna start changing their return policy if y’all keep taking advantage of it just how target changed it,” speculated another.
“I work at Costco and we had a lady buy and return flowers WEEKLY it was insane !!” one said.
“Seen somebody return a bag of fruit n it only had two Inside,” claimed another comment.
Many commenters described how other retail stores have similar policies. They described the rules they put in place to prevent these policies from being abused.
“At Home Depot we put a 7day limit in ACs, [because] ppl would use them all summer and then return it in winter,” claimed one user.
“If your Sam’s Club flowers, like roses, don’t stay fresh for 7 days after purchase, you can contact Sam’s Club for a replacement or refund,” said another.
Costco and its famous return policy
Costco’s official return policy states that they have a Risk-Free 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. Its policy states, “We guarantee your satisfaction on every product we sell, and will refund your purchase price,” with only a few exceptions.
Included among the items with stricter return guidelines are electronics, diamonds, cigarettes, and alcohol. Additionally, products with a limited useful life expectancy, among others.
Furthermore, on the Costco subreddit, some users have put the Costco return policy to the test. One user asked if there are return consequences. “The people who return stuff all the time, particularly after a long time of having them or a lot of high ticket items, do they ever get their membership flagged or removed?” asked Reddit user Squishy_Rino420.
The forum’s top response claimed that there are limits to this return policy. “They can ban members for return abuse,” claimed Reddit user Pad_TyTy. “They’ll just say ‘it doesn’t seem like Costco can meet your expectations.’ The ban will flag your name across all stores.”
