Manipur State Disaster Response Force top officer, 3 others suspended for ‘granting leaves in lieu of bribes’

IMPHAL: The commanding officer-in-charge of the state disaster response force (SDRF) and three other personnel have been suspended for their alleged involvement in granting unofficial leaves to employees in lieu of bribes.

Following a thorough inquiry by a team of top police officials, led by additional DGP Clay Khongsai, the four accused — CO-in-charge Mohd Jakiruddin, CID inspector (security) SL Thangjapao, havildar RK Momosana of 5 IRB and rifleman Yainikhomngamba Meetei of Manipur police training centre — all attached to the SDRF, were placed under suspension on Thursday.

The probe followed after a complaint addressed to chief minster N Biren Singh through the newly launched, CM Da Haisi (Let us speak to the CM), a platform for citizens to lodge their grievances or complaints against corrupt practices of government employees.

In a Facebook post, Biren said, “During the inquiry, it was found that some of the personnel were absent from duty after bribing their superiors.”

An order dated June 2 issued by the deputy secretary of the department of personnel and administrative reforms suspended Jakiruddin, a Manipur Police Service (MPS) officer, in exercise of the powers conferred by Rule 10 (1) (a) of the CCS (CCA) Rules 1965.

During the period of suspension, Jakiruddin’s headquarters shall be Imphal and he shall not leave the place without obtaining permission of the competent authority, the order read.
