Manipur governor La Ganesan appeals for free and fair polls

IMPHAL: Amid the stepped up poll-related violence in the state, governor La Ganesan has appealed to all concerned to avoid any kind of violent activities so as to enable the people to exercise their franchise freely and fairly in the ensuing assembly elections.

Manipur will go to the polls on February 28 and March 5 to elect 60 MLAs. Counting of votes will be held on March 10.

In a message released by Imphal Raj Bhavan on Friday, the governor said, “I am very much in favour of smooth and peaceful election process without any major untoward incident.”

“I sincerely appeal to all the citizens of the state to exercise their democratic franchise freely and without fear as this right will determine the destiny of the people in the coming five years,” he added.

“I am quite optimistic that every organisation will co-operate in this democratic process of the state,” said the governor.
