
Police fatally shot a man after he allegedly charged at officers while wielding a knife on Thursday night.
The altercation took place outside a shopping centre in Melbourne‘s inner west in Footscray around 9pm.
Victoria Police were called to Albert Street near Footscray Plaza after they received reports of a man armed with a knife.

Two police officers who arrived at the scene instructed the man to drop the knife. However, the man refused.
“The man then charged towards the police, still armed with the knife, and was shot by both officers,” Victoria police said.
The man, who has not been identified, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

According to a statement by Victoria Police, the incident will be investigated by Homicide Squad detectives with oversight from the Professional Standards Command, as per the procedure for a fatal police shooting.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has further information to contact Crime Stoppers.
