Married At First Sight star Awhina Rutene set the rumour mill alight this week when she started posting loved-up-looking content with fellow MAFS star Billy Belcher, following months of romance rumours.
However, despite some heartwarming TikToks featuring the six-year-old’s son Landon, Awhina says they’re just mates.
“We’re close, we laugh a lot, and we’re enjoying hanging out,” Awhina told Chattr.
While she didn’t give the pubication a straight-up answer, she did note that they’re spending the long weekend together.
“It’s my kid-free weekend,” she said.
The speculation comes after Awhina and Billy shared a joint post on Instagram featuring pics from a series of dinner dates (with romantic lighting, might I add) and some mirror selfies.
They captioned the carousel: “I’ll keep this one 🤭.”

Awhina also shared a couple of TikToks featuring Billy and I think it’s fair to say you could absolutely read into romantic connotations from both of these videos.

It’s not the first time that these two have sparked romance rumours, either.
Back in February — while we were still in the depths of MAFS airing on TV — they were papped getting ice cream in Perth.
“Billy and I are just really great friends,” she told Chattr at the time.
“It was my birthday and with everything that was airing on MAFS, it was very raw to him. So we were in communication, and it was a friendly catch-up, getting ice cream.”
On MAFS, Billy was originally paired wth Sierrah Swepstone while Awhina was matched with Adrian Araouzou. Sadly, both relationships didn’t work out.
While I think Billy and Awhina would make a lovely couple, I think this is just another round of MAFS stars teasing a couple swap to extend their 15 minutes. It wouldn’t be the first time a 2025 couple has done that either, with Jamie Marinos and Eliot Donovan teasing us on social media for a hot minute there.
That being said, I kind of hope they prove me wrong. I desperately want to believe in love and, god, it’s getting harder to by the day with this bunch.
