Luke Evans 'so excited' to share career news as he heads back to where it all started

Luke Evans has revealed he's returning to his roots with an announcement that's delighted fans. The Welsh actor has said he is "thrilled" to be heading back to the stage, where he kicked off his incredible career.

Sharing a video message with his Instagram 3.5 million followers, Luke, who hails from Pontypool, said: "So I don't do a lot of these videos, I'm not great at them but when I do them it's usually because I've got something interesting to tell you and today I do.

"If you know anything about my career you'll know I started on the stage, I did a year treading the boards and loved every minute of it. That was 16 years ago, the last time I did a play in London and I am excited to tell you that I'm going back.

"I am going to be doing a play at the end of this year, in London, and I'm very excited. I'm also very nervous but I'm looking forward to it very much, to be entertaining you where it all began for me back on the West End stage. More information to come on Wednesday, you'll know what the play is by then, and where you can buy tickets."

Luke was quickly flooded with comments, as one fan wrote: "Back to the roots, Mr. Evans. Can't wait to hear which play it will be." While another added: "This would be definitely a must see! Things are happening full circle for you, Mr.Evans."

"Fantastic news my darling," commented a third. Luke began his career performing in many of London's West End productions such as Rent, Miss Saigon, and Piaf before making his film breakthrough in the Clash of the Titans remake in 2010.

Over the years Luke has gone on to have many big roles, starring in The Three Musketeers, Dracula Untold and The Hobbit. In 2017, he had the villainous role of Gaston in Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. More recently he had parts in series including The Alienist, The Pembrokeshire Murders and Nine Perfect Strangers. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
