Lorraine Kelly begs Meghan Markle not to 'do a Gwyneth Paltrow' if she brings back old lifestyle blog

Lorraine Kelly admitted she hopes Meghan Markle steers clear of a Gwyneth Paltrow situation if the duchess brings back her lifestyle blog.

During a segment on Lorraine's ITV morning show she discussed with royal editor Russell Myers the rumours that Meghan is reviving her old lifestyle blog, The Tig, which she stopped in 2017.

Many fans of the royal couple think Meghan could be bringing back her old blog, but the 61-year-old presenter 'hopes' it's nothing like Gwyneth's controversial site Goop.

Lorraine began: “Now Meghan, look before she met Harry and married him, she had her own lifestyle blog and there is talk of that may be coming back."

Russell replied: "There is, and this is very interesting because before they were the king and queen of Instagram, with millions and millions of followers with their Sussex Royal page, she had a very popular lifestyle blog called The Tig and this was named after her favourite wine called Tiganello.

"It was all about beauty tips and recipes and her thoughts on recipes and whatnot, but it was put to the wayside after she became a member of the Royal Family and now there's potential that she's unearthing it.

“She’s re-trademarked the name in Los Angeles, part of this network of companies they’ve set up.

“It’s all shrouded in secrecy but could this be their foray into their lifestyle advice.”

Lorraine replied: “Maybe, maybe sort of Gwyneth Paltrow-esque" before quickly adding "I hope not."

Paltrow's blog and wellness website Goop sparked controversy when she began promoting vagina-scented candles and crystals designed for use in intimate areas.

Lorraine and Russell also discussed the Sussexes releasing a statement through their Archewell Foundation relaying their "concerns" to Spotify about COVID-19 misinformation.

Russell said: "Joe Rogan is a huge broadcaster in the US and he's got the most popular podcast in the world and Spotify paid him $100million to come over and be exclusively on their platform.

"He gets the weird and wonderful people in politics and from all sorts of life, but Harry and Meghan have said they have expressed concerns about his potential anti-vax views.

"Joe Rogan hasn't said he's an anti-vaxxer, he's simply said it's questionable whether young people for fit people should be getting the vaccine.

"Harry and Meghan have said they express their concerns about real consequences of COVID-19 misinformation on its platform."

Top artists, including Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, have pulled their discography from the streaming platform in protest against Rogan.

Russell explained the "star power of Harry and Meghan does work" because Spotify's co-found Daniel Ek has made a statement following their criticism.

The royal commentator added: "It's a win for them, although they haven't done too much for their money with Spotify at the moment.

"It's been over a year since we last heard from them," he added.

Lorraine interjected: "Or it might be that it's the end of it, who knows?"

With regards to the Rogan controversy, Spotify co-founder Daniel said: "We have an obligation to do more to provide balance and access to widely-accepted information from the medical and scientific communities guiding us through this unprecedented time".

Lorraine continues weekdays at 9am on ITV.
