Lorraine jokes the US has 'suffered enough' amid reports Prince Andrew could relocate

Lorraine Kelly jokingly asked whether the US has not ‘suffered enough’ amid reports that Prince Andrew could be plotting a move across the pond.

It comes as the Duke of York is reportedly fearful his older brother King Charles could force him out of his £30 million Windsor home by slashing his thousands of pounds a year grant.

The disgraced royal, who was stripped of his royal and military honours by his late mother Queen Elizabeth II, is reportedly curious about the prospect of life in the US after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ’s decision to step back as working royals.

Lorraine discussed the issue on the Monday instalment of the ITV show, as she asked The Mirror’s Royal Editor Russell Myers: “Hasn't America suffered enough?”

Russell explained: “This is all part of King Charles shaping his legacy. We’ve already had visions of the slimmed down monarchy.

“All the minor royals – including the ones that have stepped back or been elbowed out of the way, such as Prince Andrew, have a very different role to play.

“Andrew could see his very nice allowance taken away from him. He has the run of Royal Lodge in the Windsor estate. If he can’t afford the upkeep, would he have to leave?”

Lorraine replied: “There are some reasons he would go to America, but to do what?”

Russell noted Prince Andrew is said to be ‘keeping an eye’ on Prince Harry and Meghan in the US as one of his options.

“He has been keenly keeping an eye on everything Harry and Meghan have been doing in America,” a source told The Sun.

“They have managed to set up a new working life away from the royal family and that is something Andrew has been following very, very closely,” the insider added.

Russell added: “The situations are very, very different. He could be asking Fergie for Oprah's number.”

Lorraine then replied: “I don’t think Prince Andrew should do any more interviews ever.”

Russell added: “I imagine the Royal Family would just hope he fades away into the background,” as Lorraine said: “Indeed. And just be quiet.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
