Loose Women's Ruth Langsford left in tears by 'harrowing' moment on ITV show

Ruth Langsford was left in tears and needing a hug from one of her Loose Women co-stars, after breaking down over a 'harrowing' clip shown during Tuesday's episode of the ITV show and being reminded of her own family.

For the second day in succession, ex This Morning favourite Ruth was at the head of the panel as the lunchtime discussion programme took to the air in its usual 12.30pm timeslot. After kicking off with a chat about 'avoiding' your family, Ruth then moved things on to a much sadder note, centering on a tragic Coronation Street, storyline involving actress Maureen Lipman.

Cerberus, the greyhound belonging to Maureen's character Evelyn Plummer, had to be put down after eating an Eccles cake from the floor of Roy's cafe and suffering kidney failure, with the heartbreaking scenes leaving many fans of the long-running show incredibly moved.

Maureen herself has admitted filming the scenes brought back some awful memories, after she had to have her dog Diva put down last yea, with. the former Celebrity Gogglebox star saying that, rather than needing a tear stick to make her cry, she needed something to stop the tears as she acted the scene out on set.

And Ruth was left just as emotional after having to watch the clip on Loose Women. As the clip ended and the show returned to Ruth in the studio, the popular presenter looked teary eyed, failing to keep composure as she tried to get a grip on her emotions and, eventually, after admitting defeat and saying she 'couldn't see through the tears,' reached for a box of tissues next to her.

As well as being saddened by the Corrie clip, Ruth said it made her thing of her beloved dog Maggie and how devastated she;'ll be when she is no longer around, as co-star Coleen Nolan commented that people who don't have dogs have no idea just how big a part of the family they become; with fellow panellists Frankie Bridge and Janet Street-Porter also speaking of the love they have for their canine companions.

Ruth remained upset, prompting Coleen to stand up and gave her a cuddle, with Ruth then telling viewers at home that there'd been 'tears' during the subsequent ad break.
