Liverpool fans conned out of £19,000 in fake Champions League final tickets scam

A group of Liverpool fans were conned out of £19,000 by scammers selling fake Champions League final tickets online.

Ray Mcdonald and his friends received PDF tickets for Saturday’s game in Paris and initially thought they were genuine.

But upon further examination of the tickets, which cost them £1,000 each, the group realised they were bogus.

Ray, 33, said he had bought tickets from the tout six times this season but their Twitter account had been deleted and their number was out of service.

French officials believe 60,000 Liverpool fans could travel to the city to watch Jurgen Klopp’s side take on Real Madrid but fewer than 20,000 tickets were allocated to the club by UEFA.

Some fans may have bought of the 12,000 general admission tickets but many in the 80,000-capacity Stade de France will be sponsors and delegates.

Ray, from Pensby, Wirral, has now joined an online group of 50 fans who have been scammed.

He said: “We bought 19 tickets at a grand each, so we’ve spent £19,000 between us. It looked legit at first, I didn’t think anything of it. About 11pm last night I was about to go to sleep and my phone was going mad.

“I tried to phone and it said the number was not in service any more, and at that point I was like ‘I’ve been done here.’”

He said his friends had bought 40 tickets from the tout this season and all were legitimate.
