Strikes killed 19 people in Russia and Ukraine, according to authorities.
With fighting at the front at a near standstill and talks frozen, the warring countries have significantly stepped up long-range attacks deep behind each other's lines, pushing the civilian death toll to its highest levels since the war's first months in 2022.
Strikes kill 16 in Russia and Ukraine
Strikes killed 16 people in Russia and Ukraine, authorities said, as waves of drones and missiles pummelled civilian infrastructure on both sides.
In Russia, five people died in a residential area in the southern Rostov region, Governor Yuri Slousar reported on Telegram. Three other people were killed in the Belgorod, Kursk, and Moscow regions, and three more in Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine.
In Ukraine, Russian drones and missiles killed two people at an ArcelorMittal steel mill in Kryvyi Rih, as well as two people in the Zaporizhzhia region and one in the Sumy region.

Vendors rushed to the scene to assess the damage, with some saying they had lost their shops and their livelihoods.

Ukraine hit missile fuel production facility in Russia, Ukrainian military says
Ukraine hit a missile fuel production facility in Russia's Rostov region overnight, Ukrainian military said.
"The company ... manufactures solid rocket propellant for multiple launch rocket systems, as well as for a range of missile systems and airborne weapons," the military said on Telegram.
Russia says it has taken two more east Ukrainian villages, TASS reports
Russia's Defence Ministry said that its forces have taken the village of Pershomarivka in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, as well as Kudiivka in the northeastern Kharkiv region, state news agency TASS reported.

Drone shot down in Romanian airspace appears to be Russian, NATO says
An F-18 fighter on a NATO air policing mission shot down a drone that illegally breached Romanian national airspace, the fourth unmanned aircraft shot down over the country this year, Romania's defence ministry said.
A spokesperson for NATO's military headquarters, US Army Colonel Martin O'Donnell, said the alliance is constantly on watch and prepared to defend itself from any threat.
"Additional details regarding Sunday’s incident remain under investigation, but the drone appears to be Russian," he said. NATO member Romania shares a 614 km (381 miles) land border with Ukraine and has reported repeated breaches of its airspace by Russian drones over the past four years, as well as mines floating in the Black Sea across key trade and energy routes.
Drone debris damages Wildberries warehouse in Russia's Tver region, governor says
Debris from "enemy drones" damaged the wall of a Wildberries warehouse in Russia's Tver region during an overnight attack, Vitaly Korolyov, the local governor, said on Friday.
Smoke at the site quickly dissipated and no employees were injured, he said.
Ukraine aerial attack kills at least 6 people across Russia
Ukraine launched hundreds of drones across Russia, killing at least six people in one of Kyiv’s largest aerial attacks of the war.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense said that it had destroyed 822 Ukrainian drones overnight. Some 600 drones were detected headed toward the Russian capital, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said, with a third destroyed over the Moscow region itself.
An 83-year-old man was killed after a Ukrainian drone hit a private home in the Moscow region, local Gov. Andrey Vorobyov said. He also confirmed that a Ukrainian attack had sparked a blaze at a warehouse belonging to Russian retail giant Wildberries in the town of Podolsk, where images shared by Russian media outlets showed columns of black smoke

Romania says Spanish fighter jet downs drone after airspace breach
Romania's defence ministry said Sunday that a Spanish fighter jet shot down a drone that breached its airspace near the border with Ukraine and Moldova.
The interception of the drone – which entered from Moldova – was carried out by an F-18, deployed on NATO duties, at 5:01am local time (0201 GMT), the ministry said in a statement, adding that debris fell in an unpopulated area of the Galati region, near the Ukrainian border.
Russian missile attack on Kyiv sparks fires, injures one, Ukraine officials say
Russian forces launched a missile attack on Kyiv early on Sunday, sparking fires in at least two districts of Ukraine's capital, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
The city's military administration said one person had been injured.
Klitschko, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said falling debris had caused a fire in a non-residential part of a northern suburb.
Several cars were on fire, and another fire had broken out in an area just south of the city centre, he said.
Reuters witnesses reported explosions in the city.

Moscow region targeted by 600 drones overnight, three people wounded
Six hundred drones targeted the Moscow region in a sustained overnight assault that wounded three people, the Russian capital's mayor said on Sunday, as Ukraine steps up long-range attacks into Russian territory.
"From yesterday evening until 6:30am (0330 GMT) today, 600 drones were flying towards Moscow region, of which 201 were destroyed in Moscow region," Mayor Sergei Sobyanin posted on the state-backed MAX platform.
