Leeds United transfer rumours amid key Cody Gakpo update after 'deal off' reports

Here is your Leeds United morning transfer gossip on Tuesday, October 11.

Fabrizio Romano gives key Cody Gakpo update after 'deal off' reports

The Athletic reported earlier that Leeds United's chase for Cody Gakpo's signature was 'in doubt' after the winger's expectations have shifted away from the Premier League side.

The Whites came incredibly close to signing the Dutchman in the summer transfer window but were stopped short by the PSV winger's decision to stay in the Eredivisie to secure his spot in the Netherlands World Cup squad.

Now respected transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano have given his own update after reports that Leeds had made significant steps in securing a deal for the 23-year-old by 'agreeing' to personal terms.

Writing in his exclusive column for CaughtOffside, Romano explained how much he knew about the Gakpo situation and that Leeds haven't secured anything yet after the conflicting reports.

“There may be some reports of Leeds closing in on Cody Gakpo, but that’s not my understanding of the situation. I’m told there’s still nothing completed for Gakpo.

"Leeds have always been in the race, and they were close to signing Gakpo on Deadline Day in the summer. There are many clubs interested, Manchester United, for example, have a good relationship with his agents but it’s still too early to know what’s going to happen in January.”

Leeds United make move to sign Rangers youngster after Arsenal interest

Reports have surfaced that suggest Leeds United are looking to coax young Rangers sensation Jack Wylie away from Ibrox and towards Elland Road.

The 15-year-old defender is unable to be signed professionally until he turns 16 in January which raises even more questions as to whether he'll decide to step away from the Scottish side.

According to Football Insider, the teenager 'has caught the eye of scouts' from both the Whites and Premier League table-toppers Arsenal while playing for Rangers' youth sides and Scotland Under-16s.

The Whites have signed numerous young talents in the summer including 18-year-old Italy international Wilfried Gnonto and have brought through players like Joe Gelhardt and Crysencio Summerville through their youth system.

Impressive youth players like Sonny Perkins and Mateo Joseph are just a few of the names also ready to come through and be given a chance to thrive in manager Jesse Marsch's first-team and Wylie could join them in the next transfer window.
