Lee Mack floored by 'incredibly bold' statement about his wife

Lee Mack said people are sometimes 'agasht' that his wife, Tara McKillop, was attracted to him far before he was famous.

The comedian met his wife almost three decades ago during his time studying at Brunel University. He and Tara have been inseparable from the day they locked eyes in 1996 but admits he has to steer people in the right direction when it comes to how he managed to romance Tara.

Lee revealed people often assume Tara was swayed by his fortune and high profile, rather than his humour, which forced him to go on record to clarify that was not the case.

Discussing his relationship on the podcast I Can't Believe It's Not Buddha, he said: "We talked the other day with Roisin Conaty. Her sister met Tara and said 'I assume you two have been together after you became a comedian and got a bit of money.'

"I said, 'No, no, we met before I ever was a comedian when we were at university.' She looked aghast at why this woman would be with me and do you know what she said? 'Did you save her life or something?'

He added: "I thought that's an incredibly bold statement to make after five minutes of meeting someone."

Despite having to correct people on why they truly fell in love, he and Tara wed in 2005 and share three children together, Millie McKillop, Arlo McKillop, and Louie McKillop.
