Lady Gaga and Oprah Winfrey among celebrities who believe in 'manifestation' craze

Ever dreamed of being an Oscar-winning actor, best-selling author or chart-topping singer? Just thinking about it could get you there.

This is the belief of celebs like telly host Oprah Winfrey, songstress Lady Gaga and film stars Will Smith and Jim Carrey – who say they owe their fame to a craze called manifestation.

It involves thinking aspirational thoughts with the idea of making them real and has become hugely popular with young people. A-listers including Demi Lovato and Bella Hadid are also fans of the idea.

Also going by the term Law of Attraction – an idea sparked by wellness guru, inspirational speaker and author Esther Hicks – it claims everyone can attract the lifestyle of their dreams.

Self-made billionaire and chat show queen Oprah, 67, swears by the practice. “The way you think creates reality for yourself,” she says.

She has spoken about using the technique to visualise herself in the role she eventually won in Steven Spielberg’s 1985 film The Color Purple.

Bad Romance singer and actress Lady Gaga, 36, says she used her iron will to mentally tell herself success was going to happen.

In an interview back in 2011, she shared how she repeated the affirmation to herself over and over that she was famous. “You repeat it to yourself every day. And it’s not yet, it’s a lie. You’re saying a lie over and over again. Then, one day the lie is true.”

Also a believer is Will Smith, who won Best Actor at this year’s Oscars for his portrayal of Venus and Serena Williams’s father in King Richard.

He said: “I believe that I can create whatever I want to create. If I can put my head on it right, study it, learn the patterns. It’s hard to put into words, it’s real metaphysical, esoteric nonsense, but I feel very strongly that we are who we choose to be.”

Jim Carrey, too, credits his glittering career to the Law Of Attraction. In 1985 he wrote himself a cheque for $10million, post-dating it 10 years in the future, and envisioned himself as a megastar.

Nine years later he was worth even more thanks to films like The Mask and Dumb And Dumber.

Manifestation was popularised by Rhonda Byrne’s self-help book The Secret which has sold 35 million copies.

This year, Manifest: Seven Steps To Living Your Best Life by Roxie Nafouzi was dubbed the Millennials’ answer to The Secret and became an instant hit.

Supermodel Bella Hadid was seen with the book tucked under her arm.

Singer Demi Lovato, 29, reminded fans of a tweet from 2010, when she wrote: “One day, I’m gonna sing the national anthem at a Super Bowl”, a feat she achieved 10 years later.
