Kirby Air Riders is set for its big reveal tomorrow, and I have rockbottom expectations

It's almost time for another Nintendo Switch 2 first-party title, and it's led by none other than the all-powerful pink puff of doom.

It's been well over four months since Kirby Air Riders was revealed, and we haven't seen anything since then. But that's finally about to change with a new Nintendo Direct presentation tomorrow, as director and Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai will be on hand to show off what's been cooking.

The Direct will go live at 8am CT on Aug. 19 and last about 45 minutes, according to Nintendo, and it's anyone's guess what that length will contain. The new Kirby title is assumedly a sequel or successor to the 2003 GameCube title Kirby Air Ride, but even that's not clear just yet.

In the spirit of full transparency, I had never even heard of Kirby Air Ride until this new title was announced back in April. After searching up some gameplay videos, it appears to have been a racing game featuring Kirby and his multicolored variants, which I find interesting.

The gameplay of the original seems fast, frenetic, and difficult to track, judging by videos, and not something I'd normally be a fan of. I wonder if this new title will piggyback on that idea of ultra-fast speed, like Kirby is known for when riding on his star, which he basically uses as a spaceship.

The Switch 2 already has multiple racing games, including Mario Kart World and Fast Fusion, so another one seemingly so soon is kind of a head-scratcher to me. The Riders in the title implies it will be a multiplayer game, too, so I expect it to feature some GameChat integration, but other than that, it's a big question mark. Basically, I'm expecting nothing, so anything more than that would be a welcome surprise.

There's always the chance that this game will also utilize the Switch 2's mouse JoyCon controls somehow, similarly to how Donkey Kong Bananza and Drag x Drive have, but either way, we'll know more tomorrow when the Direct goes live and shows off the game to prospective new or returning Air Riders the world over.

What are your thoughts on Kirby Air Riders? Did you play the original, or are you like me and completely in the dark about what to think or expect? Let us know in the poll and comments below.
