Kerala: Man shoots dead younger brother; uncle injured

KOTTAYAM: A man shot dead his younger brother and fired at his uncle, seriously injuring him over a family feud in Kanjirappally on Monday.

Renju Kurian (50), a Mannarakkayam native, was shot dead by his elder brother George Kurian (Pappen, 55). Police took George into custody from their Kanjirappally home. Mathew Kurian, the brothers' uncle, was admitted to the government medical college hospital and is serious with bullet injuries to his head. The brothers belong to the Karimpanal family who are plantation owners. George is into the construction business in Ernakulam.

According to police, there were some issues at the Karimpanal house on Sunday and George had allegedly assaulted his parents. Renju, who was in Ootty where his children are studying, had arrived home on Monday after coming to know about this. Police suspect that George returned to the house, intending to murder his younger brother. Police also suspect that there was some dispute in the family over the sale of family property. More details will be known only after the inquest and autopsy.

The incident was around 5pm. Mathew got injured when he tried to stop George from firing at his brother. Meanwhile, George told police that he possessed the licence for the revolver. TNN
