Kennedi Westcarr-Sabaroche: Boyfriend admits responsibility for death of young mother found in car

The boyfriend of a woman whose body was recovered from a car in Hackney has admitted responsibility for her death.

Kennedi Westcarr-Sabaroche was found dead inside the vehicle on Hackney’s Whiston Road in the early hours of April 6.

Her boyfriend, Gogoa Tape, 28, was charged in the days following her death with murder.

At Inner London crown court on Monday, Tape appeared in the dock to deny the murder charge.

But he pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of the manslaughter of Ms Westcarr-Sabaroche, between April 4 and April 7.

Prosecutor Julia Faure Walker told the hearing that a murder trial is still scheduled to take place on February 3 next year.

Tape has been remanded in custody until a further hearing in his case on October 7.

In the days after Ms Westcarr-Sabaroche’s death, friends and family paid tribute to the “vibrant” and “loving” mother of a two-year-old daughter.

“Her passing has left a void that echoes in the hearts of her family and friends”, said a GoFundMe page which raised more than £43,000 towards a funeral and send-off.

“As the youngest of four siblings, she was the family’s beacon of optimism, a lover of people, a cheerleader when you need one and her moral compass always pointed in the right direction.

“She was someone who cherished moments, finding joy in dancing, trying new things, and spending time with loved ones.

“Kennedi's upbeat nature and love for TikTok dances and karaoke were contagious, and she approached life with a 'cup half-full' attitude, always finding reasons to be grateful.”

The 25-year-old, who had worked at the Prince’s Trust, was said to have “embraced motherhood like a duck to water.”
