Kambosos reveals brutal plan to keep title

George Kambosos is mulling over who his opponent for Australia's biggest-ever boxing night could be. (AAP)

Whether it's against Ukraine's pound-for-pound king Vasiliy Lomachenko or American pretender Devin Haney, George Kambosos is promising to "create more history" when he defends his four world title belts in a bona fide boxing blockbuster.

Having locked in Melbourne's Marvel Stadium - which could potentially house 60,000 patriotic fans - on Sunday, June 5 as the location and date, Team Kambosos is now mulling over who is the most worthy challenger to his IBF, WBO, WBA and The Ring straps.

Either way, it will be the biggest fight in Australian boxing history with Kambosos the home hero standing to collect - rather than eyeing - a $10 million pay day.

But titles and legacy mean more than money to Kambosos, who could elevate himself from unified lightweight champion to undisputed world champion if he takes on and beats Haney.

As WBC title holder, Haney owns the only belt Kambosos doesn't and that's precisely why the Sydney slugger says his so-called done deal with Lomachenko is anything but.

"They're both still in the running," Kambosos told AAP on Wednesday night.

"I think Lomachenko has started to creep close to the finish line and that excites me big time because Lomachenko is a hell of a fighter, a guy who's won two Olympic gold medals, multiple world titles.

"But Devin Haney excites me a lot, too, because he does have that small other little piece that he loves.

"He never really earned it in the ring, but he does love his piece, and I'd love to splatter his face across the ring and take that off him as well.

"It's going to be interesting to see who crosses the finish line and has to step into the lion's den of 'Ferocious' Kambosos, the Emperor."

While Haney is Kambosos's preferred option, given victory would propel the 28-year-old into boxing immortality as Australia's first undisputed world champion, Lomachenko also appeals.

Kambosos possesses the very three belts that Lomachenko held before Teofimo Lopez stripped the Ukrainian in Las Vegas in late 2020.

Now Lomachenko is desperate to reclaim them against Kambosos and ultimately become a four-belt world champion himself.

"There's only ever been two names that I've ever been interested in," Kambosos said.

"People are going to say, 'Wow, Kambosos is crazy. He's taking a massive risk to fight one of these guys in his first defence'.

"But you've got to be a little bit crazy in this game.

"They said I was crazy when I said I was going to be better than Lopez in every single aspect and I proved them wrong.

"I'll prove them wrong again. I don't plan on handing these belts over - ever.

"These belts are mine. I know what I had to go through to earn them the hard way.

"I did what no Australian has ever done before, fighting overseas for four, five years and so many fights all over the world.

"Now I'm fighting in Australia, 110 per cent. I'm ready to create more history."
