Kaiser Chiefs tour review: Leeds band raise the roof in packed arena gig with barnstorming set

“I recognise so many of you,” joked Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson to his thousands of adoring fans in attendance at Leeds' First Direct Arena.

The crowd went absolutely wild as the Leeds-born singer stormed through his setlist which kicked off with hits Born to Be A Dancer and Never Miss a Beat, on Saturday night (November 12) in the massive city centre venue. The Kaisers performed a medley of their greatest hits, along with several of their new songs, providing a balance of the old and new as part of their All Together UK Tour.

This came after an absolutely cracking support act from the Fratellis, another great band which emerged in the early 2000s along with the indie-wave. It’s just a shame that so many unfortunately had to miss them due to a problem with Ticketmaster which caused massive queues outside to the box office after tickets had ‘disappeared' in a technical glitch.

They performed complete with a trio of plucky backing singers which really added a touch of gravitas to proceedings, with crowd pleasing cover songs Yes Sir, I Can Boogie and Runaround Sue, along with their own classics like Henrietta and Chelsea Dagger.

The Kaiser Chiefs raised the roof serving up barrels of nostalgia and even their lesser known new songs were an absolute barnstormer, like People Know How to Love One Another from their 2019 album Duck.

The audience were singing along to every tune and bopping high up in the stands. The atmosphere was electric, especially when Ricky belted out Na Na Na Na Naa and Modern Way in quick succession.

The performance didn’t let up, and fans also got to sing along to Everyday I Love You Less and Less, Ruby, I Predict A Riot and encore closer Oh My God.

Ricky as always was really interactive with the crowd, inviting the thousands to mimic his singing in an affable back and forth. There’s a good-natured vibe about the group who at this point are a bunch of seasoned professionals.

The set on the stage was also really impressive, as was the lighting, just overall a really fantastic experience which I can't recommend highly enough.
