Kairat Almaty dealt further injury blow on day of crucial Celtic second leg

Kairat Almaty have been dealt with another injury blow ahead of the second leg of their Champions League play-off against Celtic tonight.

Brendan Rodgers and his men are in Kazakhstan for the crucial showdown, having made the lengthy trip from Glasgow on Sunday.

The teams drew 0-0 at Parkhead in the first leg last Wednesday.

For tonight's match, Kairat will be without Brazilian striker Edmilson. ASNews.kz reports that the 28-year-old, who started last week, has been injured in training and is 'practically' ruled out.

Kairat were already due to have Alexander Zarutsky and Giorgi Zaria unavailable, as well as Chelsea-bound wonderkid Dastan Satpayev, who is suspended.

Brendan Rodgers says there are no excuses for Celtic not to go through: "There's no excuse for us," admitted the manager, when asked whether the long journey and heat could impact his side's chances of progression.

"Especially when you see how well Kairat worked last week. They had the same journey going the other way.

"So that won't be an excuse for us. And I think, as I said, we all feel fine, we feel great, we're on our own time zone and like I say, we'll prepare and there'll be no excuse."
