Jurgen Klopp responds to Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai transfer with "pressure" claim

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists the club will not be heaping pressure on Dominik Szoboszlai after the midfielder's big-money move.

Szoboszlai has been unveiled as a Liverpool player after the club met his £60m release clause at RB Leipzig. The Hungary international is still just 22, though, and the Reds boss considers him a player for the present and future.

Liverpool's summer spending is already north of £100m, with Alexis Mac Allister having previously joined from Brighton in a £45m deal. Szoboszlai has taken the number eight shirt, suggesting he will have a big part to play, but Klopp is wary of the new arrival's age and relative inexperience.

Speaking to club media, Klopp made reference to the Champions League meetings between Liverpool and Szoboszlai's previous club Red Bull Salzburg, when the midfielder impressed alongside the likes of Erling Haaland and Takumi Minamino.

"I'm pretty sure he was still a teenager at that time and since then he has made some big strides – moving to Leipzig, doing really, really well in the Bundesliga, playing for the Hungary national team and then becoming captain of his national team at an incredibly young age," Klopp said of the new arrival.

"These are proper positives and this is even before we even think about his qualities as a footballer. I will not say too much about them at this stage except they are definitely the kind which will hopefully bring a lot of enjoyment and also help us to get results.

"There is no pressure, though. Dominik is still a very young player. He has so much development ahead of him and this means it makes sense for us all to be patient and to give him the time and space to allow his talent to come through within our team."

Szoboszlai has scored 20 goals in two years since trading Salzburg for Leipzig, helping Marco Rose's side finish third last season and qualify for the Champions League. However, he has shown a willingness to move to Anfield despite the Reds only being able to offer Europa League football.

"It’s really, really good," the Hungarian said after being unveiled as a Liverpool player. "I enjoyed the last [few] days and I’m looking forward to knowing everybody better.

“The last three or four days went really long; it was not that easy. But at the end I’m here, I’m happy and I can’t wait to get started.

“[A] really historic club, really good players, good coach, everything is good. For me it was perfect to make the next step in a club like this. The fans, the stadium, everything is really good.”
