Jose Cifuentes Rangers transfer fee 'detailed' as Gers step up efforts for seventh summer signing

Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal to bring Jose Cifuentes to Ibrox in a cut-price deal.

The Light Blues have already made six signing this summer; though despite the plethora of defensive and attacking signings, only one midfielder has joined Michael Beale's side in Kieran Dowell - who has essentially covered the exit of Malik Tillman after it became apparent that the American wouldn't be returning to Ibrox despite a fruitful loan spell in Govan last season. With Ryan Kent and Scott Arfield also departing, more incomings are needed in midfield, and that has brought Rangers to the table.

Cifuentes, who turned 24 this year, has featured in 96 league games for the 2022 MLS Playoff champions and has been shortlisted as a long-term target. Though it now appears that he could well be the next signing through the door.

According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers are edging closer to a deal that would see Cifuentes become their seventh summer signing.

The report states that Michael Beale and his men have been locked in talks throughout the entire week with LAFC chiefs over a deal that could see them land the Ecuadorian in the summer, as opposed to making his signature official in the winter transfer window when he is out of contract on the Golden Coast at the turn of the new year.

The midfielder has reportedly made it clear that he wishes to join the Rangers revolution in a window which has already seen them sign the likes of Jack Butland, Cyriel Dessers and Sam Lammers, with Glen Kamara likely to be heading for the exit door should Cifuentes join early.

Early reports had claimed that he had already struck a deal with the Light Blues over a potential move, though those claims are premature. However, Rangers bosses are reportedly sure that he will be in the squad before the season starts on August 5.

It is thought that a fee of around £1.2million would be enough to secure an early move instead of paying nothing in December - a relative peanuts fee from the supposed £5m that Glen Kamara would bring in should he find a new home.
