The Jonas Brothers say they would have “no shot” of landing a role in Camp Rock if they had to audition nowadays.
Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas reprise their roles as boyband Connect 3 in Camp Rock 3 - the latest instalment of the Disney Channel movie franchise - but told Entertainment Weekly that they’d have had no chance competing against the talented individuals moving up the ranks.
Nick explained: “People kind of associate us with a boy band, though we will be the first to tell you we’ve never been good dancers and never will be.
“So if we had to audition the way the talent who are in these DCOMs (Disney Channel original movies) now do, then we’d have no shot.”
Kevin agreed, adding that “all these kids [are] hypertalented and very, very capable”.
Meanwhile, Joe admitted he and his brothers had no idea they’d get the reaction they did when they announced they were returning for Camp Rock 3.
He mused: “I knew that the OG fans that grew up with Camp Rock would be thrilled, but it’s this whole new generation of young people that have discovered Camp Rock through Disney+ and even TikTok. “We, as a team, wanted to make sure that we had moments where we nodded to some of what people love so much about that original film — the iconic dances, the comedy that we didn’t think was funny at the time but became meme-worthy.”
Camp Rock 3 director Veronica Rodriguez also acknowledged the “skinny tightrope” they had to walk to please old school Camp Rock fans and the newer generation.
She said: “You have to please both simultaneously — our nostalgia viewers and our new Camp Rockers. We only succeed if we are making both have a good time.
“I even acknowledged [in the pitch] that there is a very skinny tightrope to walk because there are decades in between. I really think we succeeded.”
Camp Rock 3, which also features a cameo appearance from Demi Lovato, is available to watch on the Disney Channel now.
