Jeremy Renner expresses willingness to return as Hawkeye in MCU

Jeremy Renner recalls how Anthony Mackie rushed to his side after his snowplow accident

In a remarkable display of strength and resilience, actor Jeremy Renner has made a triumphant return to the world of acting. After a harrowing snowplow accident nearly a year ago left him with serious injuries, Renner is back on the set of the third season of The Mayor of Kingstown. Not only that, but he has expressed his willingness to reprise his role as Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

During an interview with ET Online, Renner revealed that he is open to returning to the MCU despite the character of Hawkeye now being portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop. Renner stated, 'I'm always game. I'm gonna be strong enough, that's for sure. I'll be ready. All those guys come to my bedside and they've been with me all along through this recovery, so...if they want me, they could have me. It would be something.'

Renner's journey as Hawkeye began with a brief cameo in 2011's Thor and continued with a full appearance in The Avengers the following year. He subsequently appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Endgame, and the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Additionally, Renner voiced an alternate version of Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the What If...? animated series.

While Renner has played a superhero on screen, he proved to possess real-life superhero strength following a horrific snowplow accident. The actor suffered multiple injuries, including eight ribs broken in 14 places, a broken tibia, ankle, clavicle, and shoulder, among others. The accident occurred when Renner valiantly attempted to protect his nephew from harm as a snowplow began rolling back. Miraculously, his nephew emerged unharmed, highlighting Renner's heroism in everyday life.

The incident took place on New Year's Day 2023, and Renner courageously shared his recovery journey on social media. Despite facing a challenging and arduous road to recovery, he demonstrated incredible resilience and determination. What could have been a life-threatening accident transformed into a testament of true strength in the midst of adversity, showcasing Renner's indomitable spirit to never give up and reclaim his former self. Throughout the recovery process, he had the unwavering support of his family and fellow Avengers, who showed their solidarity and admiration.

Scarlett Johansson, Renner's co-star in various MCU projects, acknowledged his remarkable feat, stating, 'I was very upset. On the Avengers text chain, we're like, 'OK, you beat us all. That's it. You won.' That's like real superhero stuff. It's unbelievable.'

Currently working on the third season of Paramount+'s The Mayor of Kingstown, Renner has also landed a spot in a Super Bowl commercial set to air during the highly anticipated game this Sunday. With his return to the acting world and his willingness to reprise his iconic role, it's clear that Jeremy Renner is an extraordinary individual who exemplifies strength, resilience, and a deep commitment to his craft.
