Jamie-Lee Harvie: Family's relief as Ayrshire schoolgirl, 12, missing for eight days is traced safe and well

The family of a 12-year-old schoolgirl who went missing for eight days say she is "now in good hands" after being found safe and well.

Jamie-Lee Harvie, who lives in Ayr, has been traced in Irvine after she disappeared last Tuesday.

Police upped their search appeal for the youngster with a press conference yesterday afternoon urging members of the public to come forward with any information regarding her whereabouts.

Now the Irvine Royal Academy pupil has been found safe and well with both officers and family thanking the public for their assistance in the search for Jamie-Lee.

Ayrshire Police Division said on their Facebook page: “Jamie-Lee Harvie, 12, who had been missing from Ayr since Tuesday, 14 March 2023, has been traced by officers safe and well in the Irvine area this afternoon, Wednesday, 22 March 2023."

Chief Inspector Kevin Lammie, Ayrshire Police Division, said: “We would like to thank everyone who assisted in the search for Jamie-Lee. Thank you as well to members of the public for sharing our appeal.”

Jamie-Lee’s uncle Steven Harvie took to Facebook to thank everyone and let the public know she is “now in good hands”.

He said: “My wee niece Jamie-Lee has now been found since the disappearance on Tuesday the 14th March after eight days.

“Thanks to everyone in their contribution to finding her; from getting it posted over social media platforms to some people going out there way to find her thank you.

“It’s been an eventful eight days for the family - going out of our minds, no sleep etc, so I’m making this post to let others aware she is now in good hands.”
