ITV Emmerdale viewers 'work out' returning character as Cathy Hope heads for exit

Emmerdale fans think they have worked out who will be returning to the Dales after a big tease from the ITV soap's boss. Jane Hudson, Emmerdale's executive producer, told press earlier this month that a "familiar face" would be making a comeback.

Teasing what's to come when the sunshine will, hopefully, be beaming across the country, Jane said: "You all know we love a summer wedding. You’ve just watched a brilliant wedding but I can tell you there is another wedding - at least one - coming up before we get to the end of summer. I won’t tell you who.

"One of the weddings will be more traditional than Charity and Mackenzie’s, I can tell you that. There will be no A Team wigs or vans." She then added: "And we’ll be having a familiar face returning before the end of summer. I think the audience will be absolutely delighted when this familiar face makes a return to the show. They’ll be in the show hopefully for the foreseeable."

During Wednesday night's trip to the Dales, Emmerdale viewers saw Gabby Hope continue to struggle with an undiagnosed hormone disorder known as Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a very severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Previously, Brenda Walker admitted to Bob Hope that she was thinking of taking his daughter, Cathy, to see her big brother Scott Windsor as she struggles with the undiagnosed disorder and her school exams. And in the latest episode, viewers heard Cathy and Heath talking about their brother who hasn't been in the village for some time.

Scott Windsor was played by actor Ben Freeman, who left the soap in 2007 after taking over the role in 1998. During his time in the village, the character slept with lesbian Zoe Tate and in 2003, Zoe gave birth to their daughter, Jean Tate Jnr, who she named after her late grandmother.

Zoe also once tried to kill Scott but at her trial, she was found innocent. He later tried to inflict revenge when he held Zoe hostage at Home Farm. Scott was eventually talked around by Viv and Zoe. Scott later dated Debbie Dingle and they both conned Rodney Blackstock and Rodney set them up in a revenge plan and not soon after he left the village.

Scott has not been back since but following the mention of Scott, fans have been taking to Twitter to question whether he is the one making a comeback. @Dbella91 tweeted: "I’m hoping mentions of Scott is a good path way for his return.. with Jean #Emmerdale."

@macnamara60 commented: "Scott Windsor mensh?? God almighty, they’re not bringing HIM back, are they? #Emmerdale." @Chriskaxo noted: "There was a Scott mention omg !! #emmerdale." @mikepriestley13 shared: "Scott windsor mention.. about time Ben freeman reprises the role! #Emmerdale." @Beckie_Miller_ added: "Bound to be bringing him back now then."

In upcoming scenes, Emmerdale viewers will see Cathy turn violent after a row with her B&B owner dad leads to an explosive altercation. Still in need of help to control her mood swings, and stressed about what to do about her exams, she flies off the handle - before striking Bob by accident, scratching him with her keys.

Bob winces, still holding his bleeding cheek but he doesn't hold it against her. Later, as the father-daughter duo cool off from the day's events, Bob gives Cathy a hug, unaware she has a plan. As he leaves, a lost Cathy takes a packed rucksack from behind the sofa. Once outside, she stares back at The Grange with her eyes filled with tears and turns and walks away into the night.
