Interstate 75 delays in Fayette County still anticipated

Motorists traveling between Lexington and Richmond along Interstate 75 will still face some possible delays for a few more weeks. A rehabilitation project is anticipated to be completed by mid-November.

The work along both north and southbound lanes runs from the Man O War Boulevard exit on I-75 to the Kentucky River crossing. District Seven Transportation Department Spokeswoman Natasha Lacy said commuters may still want to look at an alternate route during morning and afternoon drive times.

“Those are times that you know there’s going to be you know additional traffic for those areas. So, if you want to take Old Richmond Road, if you have to travel during those peak time periods, you could do that as your alternative route,” said Lacy.

Lacy noted the work over the next week and a half will require alternating lane closures during the day and night. She added there will not be lane closures both north and southbound at the same time over this 9.5 miles of interstate.

Lacy said this kind of extensive rehab work is a part of scheduled maintenance for heavily traveled routes.

“You have to remember there’s heavy truck traffic on your interstates and of course there’s heavy rain which create potholes. There’s also snow and ice. All of these are contributing factors to roads wear and tear and deterioration,” said Lacy.

Lacy said the rehab work involves removal of existing roadway and putting a new surface in place.
