Insider Says Karamo Skipped Queer Eye Press After Co-Stars Were Overheard Talking Trash

Something was majorly up when Karamo Brown bailed on a live Queer Eye interview and his cast mates were left on the couch doing damage control — and now there might finally be a reason for the icy vibes.

TMZ reports that Karamo fell out with three of his co‑stars after a hot mic moment on set that his own mum overheard, which is honestly the stuff of social anxiety nightmares.

According to TMZ, the cast — Karamo, Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness and Jeremiah Brent — were filming season 10 in Washington, DC, when Karamo brought his mum to set and production gave her headphones so she could watch from nearby.

At one point Karamo stepped away, and while he was gone, Antoni, Tan and Jonathan were allegedly recorded speaking negatively about him, including criticising “certain lifestyle choices he makes”, with Karamo’s mum hearing the entire thing and later relaying it back to him.

Sources told TMZ the conversation created an “immediate rift”, and Karamo has reportedly been on the outs with Antoni, Tan and Jonathan ever since, while Jeremiah seems to be the only one he’s still close to, as he’s the only cast mate Karamo still follows on Instagram.

The tension first really showed itself in public during season 10 press day, when Karamo abruptly pulled out of multiple morning show appearances less than an hour before one CBS Mornings interview was due to go live, leaving his co‑hosts stunned.

In an email read on air, his assistant said, “Karamo has felt mentally and emotionally abused for years and he’s been advised by his therapist to protect himself and his peace by not attending.”

Karamo later appeared in a video message instead of joining them on the Today couch, saying, “Just like the themes of the season, I am modelling what I believe is most important, which I want to remind you all … Love yourselves and protect yourselves. That’s why I’m here at home and not there”, while assuring fans he “loved every minute” of making the milestone 10th season.

Online, the usual modern‑day friendship barometer isn’t doing the Fab 5‑ish crew any favours either: P.TV has observed that Karamo and some of his co‑stars no longer follow each other on Instagram, and older group photos on Tan’s IG no longer tag him, which is giving blocked energy, but who’s to say.

Antoni shared a seemingly pointed farewell post for the show’s end on Instagram, writing: “It’s not about how or even that it ended — the journey of it all was the part I’ll hold close to my heart. Thank you to each and every one of you who watched, laughed, cried, screamed, binged, and related to the stories we were lucky enough to be a part of for almost a decade. Tenth and final season of @queereye is now on Netflix 🫶🏼”, while Tan has tagged the cast in season 10 content — just not Karamo.

All of this is happening against the backdrop of an already fractured Fab 5, after original design expert Bobby Berk left the series and later told Cosmopolitan he genuinely thought Queer Eye was wrapping when their contracts ended.

“We’d just assumed that the show wouldn’t come back if we all didn’t come back. I was like, I’m not going to be having FOMO cause the show is not going to happen. I had become at peace with it,” he said, adding that when Netflix renewed for more seasons, the others signed on and “with only one of us not coming back, Netflix felt [it] could recast one person”.

Bobby admitted there were “definitely emotions” and spoke about his own tensions with Tan, saying, “Should I have unfollowed Tan? No. Maybe I should have just muted him. But that day, I was angry, and that’s the end of it. We became like siblings — and siblings are always going to fight”, before predicting that “in six months or a year, Tan and I at each other’s house being good. The Emmys [reunion] was already the first bandage on that wound”.

Reps for Karamo, Antoni, Tan, Jonathan and Jeremiah have so far declined to publicly weigh in on the alleged hot mic incident, so for now all anyone really has is a decade‑defining makeover show ending with a very messy breakup behind the scenes.
