The Indian men's hockey team extended their undefeated streak during their tour of South Africa, securing a convincing 3-0 victory over the hosts. Captain Harmanpreet Singh (2nd minute), Abhishek (13th) and Sumit (30th) were the scorers in the Friday night match.
India began the game with an aggressive approach, earning an early penalty corner that Harmanpreet converted with a powerful dragflick, which gave visitors the lead.
Abhishek capitalized on an attacking move just before the end of the first quarter, doubling India's advantage with a well-placed shot past the South African goalkeeper.
Despite South Africa's offensive efforts in the second quarter, India's defence remained composed and determined to maintain a clean sheet. Sumit added to the lead with a field goal just before half-time, putting India comfortably ahead 3-0.
Although South Africa exhibited urgency after the half-time break, they struggled to breach the Indian defence. The third quarter was intense, featuring action on both ends, but neither team managed to score.
In the last 15 minutes, South Africa pressed for a goal; but India held firm in the circle, thwarting any potential threats. India are set to face the Netherlands in their next match on Sunday.
