Excavations rarely result in any spectacular finds on their first day. Excavation work requires many hours of meticulous excavation, documentation, and patience. This is why a recent find in Scotland attracted particular interest. In 2024, while participating in the excavation at Burghead Fort for the first time in her life, a student uncovered an interesting find. However, what appeared to be an especially lucky day for the student turned out to be only one episode in a wider narrative.
Archaeologists had been researching one of the most significant early medieval sites of Scotland for some time before this find. The gold artifact did not emerge in some anonymous empty field but from the very same location which has been assisting archaeologists in studying the history of the mysterious Picts.
